    Make IPA Clear Again

To me it's a perfectly legitimate variation in IPA. And I dislike it when a brewer makes the bitter compete with the hops so much they clash. We have room for new styles, IMO. And I love the adventure when they arrive at the judge's table. But I admit many judges are more traditional.

    Cat Pee Hop?

And squeezing the kitty litter just seems to produce this gritty texture to it all.

    Grainfather problems

So glad someone else has had problems with the boil. To supplement my third batch which, again, didn't go right, I brewed up a quick batch of extract. I finally had to boil on the stove and keep adding. Yes, the GF was set right. But 2 hours later it only got close to boil through additions. I...

    Pine Flavored Hops

Yes, absolutely. I judged a lot this weekend and had at least 2 IPAs I am guessing have at least Chinook in them. OK, I can SEE why people call it that. To me it's more grapefruit, maybe a hint of earthy/woody (WE HAVE WOOD!!!:off::D) And to get serious for a moment, maybe a tad grapefruit...

    Pine Flavored Hops

I've been judging since 99 and, to be honest, like flavor each person is unique when it comes to aroma and palate. So I'm not claiming those who sense that are wrong, just that there are those with valid reasons for why that's not the aroma or taste they perceive it as.

    Pine Flavored Hops

This has been a topic of discussion between two BJCP judges, my wife and I. I used to live in a pine forest, and have always loved the smell of them. I've lived in the south since 78 and our little valley has pines, which smell a little dif from N. pines, IMO. Not one hop has ever smelled...

Anheuser-Busch InBev Acquires Northern Brewer & Midwest Supplies

I think your assessment that they have no reason to mess with a good thing may be temporarily right, but in long term wrong. The object, I believe, to to have as much control over all things beer so, when dire situations like a depression, or just shifts in the industry, will give them the...

    better braggot recipe

I use 2 yeasts, one to start the beer and then when I make the mead I use narabonne. 5 gallons... you probably should use 9-10 lbs, from my experience. If not the honey disappears. Some recipes call for as much as 12.

    Please critique my IPA/Braggot recipe.

If you're doing 5 gallons I'd do at least 6lbs honey, and that's low from my experience... but you said you don't like it sweet. Honey does get lost easily, taste-wise. For my IPA braggot I used Cascade and Fuggles. It was perfect, but the hops faded way to fast, IMO.
