    Compressor Lock Up ?

I've 119.1 volts going to relay. When relay clicks on, the compressor will come on, but then goes into overload and shuts off after about 5 sec. I'm guessing it's most likely froze, I'm going to slap it with a hammer. At this point, that will either fix or kill it.

    Compressor Lock Up ?

Have a whirlpool sidexside, controlled with STC1000. It has run fine for 2 years. I'm guessing my compressor has locked up, the fan will start and compressor relay will click on but the compressor will not start, then the relay will click off after a minute or so. I've beat on the compressor...

Adding DME To Washed Yeast Before Storing

What I would like to do is to store enough yeast in a baby food jar to be able to pull it out of cold storage and acclimate and add to fermenter.

Adding DME To Washed Yeast Before Storing

Once you have jarred your washed yeast, is there any reason you can't add DME and ferment out to increase the yeast count before you put them to sleep?

Variable resistance SSR for boil control?

http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2_30&products_id=353 Good price and reliable. From Auberins, they ship from Georgia. I usually have my stuff in 3 or 4 days. Their heatsinks are pricey, I would source them elsewhere if you want them cheaper.

POR-15 to prevent rust on camco heating elements?

I would rather let em rust . They should develop a layer of surface rust which will protect the metal from further rusting. That's what I 'm hoping will happen to mine. These elements were designed to be exposed to water 24/7 for their lifetime. We are not using them as they were made to be...

    Can't Control Power To Element

Thanks, guys. Maybe one day I'll get it thru my head that an SSR has to have a load to be tested. The reason I want to monitor the SSR ,I had one fry and the temp ran wild. I use my PID's to control the boil in manual in certain cases. No thermo probe in this loop, so I didn't know temp was...

    Can't Control Power To Element

Bought this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181324129465?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Connected per Mr. PJ's diagram, minus the switch. The lamp stays on when PID is cycling ,it won't go out. Connected lite bulb to PID side of switch and it blinks with PID cycle. What have I...

Electrical Costs for a Normal Brew Day

By comparison I was using a turkey fryer before converting to electric. I paid $20.00 for 20lbs propane and used about 12lbs on a 5 Gal boil, on a calm warm day, more when it's not. I'm guessing for 10 Gal. boil it would probably add a couple more lbs of propane. So you're looking at $15.00...

    Can't Control Power To Element

Thank you for your help, as always the knowledge offered by this forum is amazing. Yes, my SSR was fried. All is well now with new SSR. Upgraded to a higher current SSR. As you know they like to melt down in the open position. Unless you have an alarm or paying real close attention to your...

    Can't Control Power To Element

Thanks, hooked bulb to old SSR, it came on as soon as I powered 120V without battery connected, so it's burnt. Connected bulb to new SSR (it's installed) powered on PID and bulb started flashing in cycle. I guess this is the only way to test SSR. When I put voltmeter to output of SSR even with...

    Can't Control Power To Element

I cannot control power to element. Thought SSR was bad, replaced with new SSR. PID is cycling SSR, but it is not cycling element. Full power to element all the time. When I power off PID, I still have 120V coming out of SSR to element. I have checked my wiring til I'm blue in the face...
