New Bill Could Allow States to Add Homebrew Sales on Cottage Licenses

I'm a conservative and thought: "The Republicans are going to oppose this, damn!" Needless to say, you got me.

    Using a generator

I decided to just use my dryer plug. Its actually pretty accessible. Plus, it will keep me indoors. I definitely agree with you Owly on how we can complicate things, and usually for no benefit.

    Using a generator

That brings up another question. If i plan on getting a 4500w element and running it and a pump, how much more wattage should I need to efficiently run both? In other words, if I had a 5000w generator, and was powering 5000w, would it require the generator to run at 100% power?

Good to know...thanks for the info.

    Using a generator

Yeah, I know they're noisy...I wouldn't have it in the garage with me. It would be outside with a line running into the garage. Even then, I would build an enclosure around it. I'm not really worried about efficiency since it would not be used on a daily basis. Plus, if you need power after a...

    Using a generator

I am currently building an electric brewery and plan on using a 4500w 30a element. I am also waiting on my electrician to have time to get out here and run a 240v plug...who knows when that will happen (and I am down to 5 gallons of HB). I need to figure something out, and got to thinking...does...

    Hops Alpha Acid %

I think I figured it out (with help from John Palmer). What we want to match is the alpha acid units (AAU), which is calculated by multiplying the AA% by weight in ounces. So if a recipe calls for .75 oz of 7.0% AA, the calculated AAU will be 5.25. If you have only 2.6% AA available, you would...

    Hops Alpha Acid %

I'm looking at various recipes that call for higher-than-I've-seen-available AA. For instance, one recipe calls for Spalt 7% AA, but I have only seen 2.6% AA or so. It seems that I have read in the past how to compensate for the lower percentages but I am not sure. Anyone have any recommendations?

    Grainfather!!

I asked the same question to the folks at Grainfather, they said don't worry about that button...lol! I'm not really worried about it now since I have the new controller on the way.

    12 Beers Of Christmas 2016!

Hi, Can someone either post the link or PM me the recipe for the spiced cherry dubbel? I'd like to make one and age it about a year, and who knows, maybe get in on the 12 of 2017.

Has anyone brewed any of the recipes from the Breiss website? I'm wondering how well they are crafted.

    Grainfather/Beersmith help

I need some help from someone smarter than me. I am trying to create a Grainfather equipment profile in BeerSmith. I followed the instructions according to those found in post #1231 in the big GF thread, but there were a few areas that weren't addressed. Plus, his is for a 6 gallon batch and I...

    Undercarbed Red

Oh, I forgot to add the temp...about 40F. Thanks day trippr. I did see that chart a couple of weeks ago, just thought I would double check a few opinions on here. Thanks

    Undercarbed Red

I put a red on gas about 6 days ago at 12 PSI and just poured a glass to check it and it was way undercarbed. I planned on leaving it at 12psi for 14 days to clear, age and carbonate but I thought I would check it today. Its been 4 years since I've done this so I am wondering if my plan is ok. I...

    AHS Texas Red...

LMAO! I was researching reds and came across this thread. I looked at the OP's handle and thought...hmm Brian74 from Tyler Texas...that describes me (well it did a few years ago anyway). A little back story, I took some time off for school and didn't brew for a few years so when I came back to...

    Grainfather metric water formulas

Wrong...the burden of proof is not on me. If you don't believe me, do your own research and report back to me by Monday.

    Grainfather metric water formulas

Anyway, I got what I needed from GF. They sent a pdf of the NZ/AU/UK instructions.

    Grainfather metric water formulas

The calculator is wrong. I want the formulas. Of course, I could use the US version and convert gallons to liters, but I want to compare the results using each formula.

    Grainfather metric water formulas

I am wondering if anyone has the metric formulas for calculating mash and sparge water for the Grainfather. One of their videos had the sparge water calc only, and not the mash water calc. There seems to be some discrepancy in the formulas. I have seen, volume in liters, (2.2 x kg grain) +...
