    Venturi Aeration Experiment

I wonder... what if you were to expand the aeration space using a T-join. Off the T, slap on a secondary hose that is hooked up to an oxygen tank so you are introducing a slow flow of O2 with the aeration (instead of just room-air). This would remove the need for an oxygenation after cooling and...

Share us your DUMBEST brewing experience...

Did something similar but with a rubber grommet. Lost the original rubber grommet to my fermenting bucket, got a replacement that would suffice. Was pushing the airlock into the grommet and POP!, pushed the damn grommet through the lid. Was then stuck with the grommet on one side of the lid and...

    Beer Jelly Beans

Oh... sweet.... jebus... :smack: Craft brewing has arrived? Joking aside. I would rather have the real deal than a a chemical-jelly bean ;) <edit> Those things look like pearls... something is not right with that...

Brewing is my zen & recipe thoughts

Oh man - how I have missed brewing! Its been a couple months since my last brew session but sitting here in the garage in 20F weather with snow on the ground and just content like a dog by a warm fire. It is excellent! Brewing up an Pale/IPA right now (want the hop aroma but not so bitter...

    Sierra Nevada

Man, that is really awesome! It is amazing to see some companies that "get it". It makes very solid business sense too : 1,000* knit caps @ $4 bucks a pop** = $4,000 1,000* cards @ $1 a piece = $1,000 1,000 items to ship @ 0.32 a piece*** = $880 ----------- Just under $6,000 for a 1,000 new...

    Soapy Taste in Session IPA

In some commercial brews I have definitely picked up a "soapy" taste to the IPA and always wondered if it was my nose/taste buds reacting to a specific hop... interested to hear what others have to say about this one!:cross:

    Grain shelf life in bucket

I plan on buying a 55lb bag of grain soon and I am going to do exactly what the preppers do for this kind of medium to long term storage. It' a grain, so just get a mylar bag and some oxygen absorbers; place grain in mylar bag, put in O2 absorber, seal with an iron. Done. Should be good for...

Equally Obnoxious Hockey Trash Talk Thread, eh?

Been doing this for the past two seasons. WGN broadcasts a ton of games and they have a free app that you can get for your smart phone. Works out excellent! And all for the low low price of free!

Does brewtoad make anyone else want to shoot themselves in the face?

I use Brewer's Friend (http://www.brewersfriend.com/) but it has a really annoying limit in the number of recipes before it wants you to pay (I think it is 5... which is really low). It seems to work and stays pretty much out of your way. It decent. Wish they would go ad supported and just allow...

cream ale brew with large yeast cake(i think)

Yeah - agree with STZ. Definitely looks like leftover proteins from cold break. Did you strain the wort when moving it into the fermenter? If not, might be worth looking into picking up a strainer like this ...

    2013 Hop garden photo thread

Hey bedman - Fair enough & not a bad philosophy. I was hearing that hop bines during the hottest days of summer really needed up to 4 gallons of water per day (I think this is for mature plants?). I think I heard this on BN when they had a guy from HopsDirect on there. I may be just not be...

    2013 Hop garden photo thread

Holy shnikes... the yeilds off of some of the first year hops posted in this thread is making me insanely jealous. That is a hell of a haul. I picked off maybe 2oz from my cascade (at best) and have been watering roughly 2 gallons a day... If you are pulling lb(s) off a first year hop, do...

    Torn: Keg -OR- Burner

Just ordered the burner. Pissed - ordered from NB but 20 min later saw midwest was running a free shipping deal. Could have saved by 15 bucks. Such is life I guess... Will be saving up for the keg purchase. Hoping there will still be some still left around. It is crazy how much the price had...

    Things SWMBO says on brewday:

At first, when racking to the fermentor or secondary, my wife would ask me in a smart ass tone - "are you rackin' off again? Jeez, you're always rackin' off.. can't help yourself..." Now when when I even mention that I am going to be brewing the "rackin' off" jokes start. I am just waiting for...

First AG and when a 60 minute boil becomes 90... becomes 120!

Update on the brew - didn't turn out too bad. I regret using as much smoke malt as I did. It really fights like hell with the hops. I am hoping the drying hoping will help balance things out a bit. Finished a bit sweeter than I was hoping - around 1.012 but serviceable (OG was 1.062). Before...

    Torn: Keg -OR- Burner

Yeah, kegging seems like, once you plop down the cash you are in it to win it. @LuiInIdaho - That aspect made me second guess the purchase (I had my wallet out and everything but decided to sanity check what the heck I was doing). ThatJonGuy saved me! :drunk: I had my eye on...
