    New All Grain Equipment question(s)

Thanks guys, I think I am going with a 12" false bottom with 1/2" silicone between the false bottom and the bulk head. It will resolve my straight pipe issue. Time to build... Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

One more, do I use 3/8" ID hose for 1/2" barbed fittings? I read that somewhere and figure I should ask . Sent from my iPhone using Home Brew

    New All Grain Equipment question(s)

I picked up 2 welded kegs for a HLT and Brew pot. I have a Lowes 10 gallon for an MLT. I am also getting a march pump and Banjo burners to retro fit my old mega grill in to my brew stand (angle iron reinforced). I plan on picking up the long premium bulk head from bargain fittings for the...

    Reusing bottles

If you have a hand capper (batwing) then different bottle heights aren't bad, but a stand/table capper you have to constantly adjust. If you have it set short (for woodchuck bottles) it will break a long neck. Also, brown color pop tops are the way to go. I tried screw tops by accident and...

    Just bought 3 kegs

250 for 3 kegs, 2 with tops cut and 2 1/2" npt welds and one regular. Can't wait to start all grain. Converting an old Kenmore stainless mega grill into a brew stand. Time to research fittings and pumps and burners and getting the valve off the 3rd keg. Can't wait!!!!

I am going for a creamy coffee stout with a residual sweetness. The person I am making this for is a huge coffee drinker and likes a sweeter beer. Jim's Milk Coffee Stout Style: Sweet Stout OG: 1.059 Type: Extract FG: 1.015 Rating: 0.0 ABV: 5.82 % Calories: 193.51 IBU's: 27.28...

    6 weeks

My normal run is 3 weeks in the primary 3 weeks bottle condition. My question is 2 parts. Will I have the same aging flavor if I was 5 weeks in primary and 1 week in the bottle? The second would be how quickly does a beer bottle carb If I wanted to run 4 primary 2 bottle or 5 And 1. Just...

Thanks, I got lucky. I wanted to reply "your daughter is hot," but after having a little girl I see things in a new perspective.

    Filtering to primary

It takes months. There is a scientific name for it, but its enough yeast cells dying releasing enough stuff to cause off flavors. Autolypsis, autolyposis, or something.

    Filtering to primary

Sounds like to much hop gunk... Will have to find a way around that when I transfer to the carboy. First time it's been like this and first IPA style beer I have made.

    Filtering to primary

I'm not worried about the sediment in the bottles, i racked off the trub and the bottles are very clean. My issue is the amount of trub produced making me lose over 100 ozs of beer in the primary because of 4" of trub.

    Filtering to primary

Does filtering from brew pot to primary cause less trub for bottling? I generally siphon from brew pot to carboy and take everything, trying to get all the goodness in there, but my first 5 gallon batch had at least 4" of trub when I went to bottle. If I leave the gunk in the brew pot will...

    Sleep Study Tonight

My brother had to go trough it for severe apnea... No meds, he moves a lot and kept ripping sensors off, they woke him and reapplied almost 10 times. It would be easier to start with he apnea machine instead of the study... Cheaper on insurance too.

    What's your story?

We had a crab apple tree... The branches were like leather. Smooth and bendable.

    no blow off tube

I always get an avalanche in the S airlock, so my LHBS suggested 1/2 inch tubing straight out of the carboy into a bowl of sanitizer. Still got Krausen in the blow off tube and sanitizer bowl. So now I just let t happen then swap to an S airlock. Easier cleaning the tube and one small bowl...

    What's your story?

I wanted to try to raise rabbits for food so that year for Christmas my family got me a lot of country living books which had chapters on making wine and beer. Rabbits were a no go due to county regulation, but making booze is 100% legal. Started with wine, got tired of waiting to drink it...
