Show Me Your Wood Brew Sculpture/Rig

Hi All, For those who missed it, I wrote an article about building my wooden brew stand and it made it into the September 2015 edition of BYO Magazine!

Hmm, interesting. The product description on Amazon for the style of pump I actually have says: "Face unscrews and rotates at 90 degree intervals to adjust to your application. To restrict flow place a ball valve on the out flow of this pump. The center inlet port allows for easy draining and...

Mine? That is the configuration that pump was designed for. Bottom port aids in complete drainage after use...

Being a woodworker, I went that route. My rig is two tiers, but when rolled up to my kettle (sitting on the propane burner, which is sitting on the garage floor) it becomes a three tiered system. During the boil I clean up the coolers and stow them on the bottom shelf. Then when the boil is...

Those rails look like they are 2 x 6 (at least) lumber. That is not going to sag appreciably under the weight you will put on it. If it ever does sag, it will be years from now, when you are tired of that stand and ready to build a new one :)

Possibly when it gets warmer. If I do anything it will likely just be a clear coat though (i.e. no stain).

Looking good! Just out of curiosity, it looks like you have several extra inches of height on the HLT platform. By that, I mean that it must be a chore to get that pot of water up there, so lowering that platform to the bare minimum needed to get it to gravity feed into your mash tun would...

Just got the new kettle in last night. Am awaiting just a few parts to complete the quick disconnect lines and it will be ready to test drive.

In response to the questions about fasteners... I briefly debated doing something fancy like mortise and tenon joinery but ultimately I decided to reserve that stuff for furniture applications. This is a working piece of equipment that will no doubt get scratched on occasion, get liquid...

Thanks! I am overhauling my garage brewery with a larger kettle, pump, and CF chiller so I figured it was time to put my wood shop to good use and build a brew stand.

I have drawn a lot of inspiration from this thread, so thanks everyone! My stand itself is basically done, but I will still sand the whole thing down, add some pegboard and hooks on the back, add my pump and CF chiller, etc. I will post again when it is completely done...
