    Recommended breweries/brewpubs

My wife and I are planning our vacation for this summer. We decided to camp our way through the NorthEast. We've traveled the area before but would like some local input. We actually enjoy planning around brewpubs, and the like, and hope to do the same again. We're starting in central PA and...

    Brewing audiobooks

I'll have to check out some of those podcasts as well. While not specifically about brewing, I also found it interesting. Some other audio books about starting a brewery: Beer School (about Brooklyn Brewery) So You Want To Start A Brewery (Lagunitas Brewing) Brewing Up A Business...

    Gravity question

The skinny: We're not new to brewing beer and hard cider, but wine is an new venture for us. Wife shows up with a flat of white grapes, so we made 2 one gallon batches that slightly vary from each other. Gravity started at 1.096 and after quite a bit of time and racking twice, gravity...

    Stir bar alternatives

Cool, thanks for the input, guys. I'm just swirling it every so often. I did make it up much earlier and probably won't pitch until tomorrow evening. Again, thanks. Steve

    Stir bar alternatives

Got myself caught in a slight pickle. I DIY'd my own stir plate but my stir bar hasn't been delivered yet. It's on the way, but now won't be delivered until Tuesday. Tomorrow(Sunday)is brewday and I wanted too make my starter this morning. Are there any reasonable alternatives I can use, even...

    Need help ID'ing lid

Thanks very much. Let's continue breaking down the stupid wall, shall we? What are the advantages to having an auto or manual relief valve? And does it matter if the lid is pin or ball when the keg itself is setup for ball lock? Like I said before, this is my first adventure in kegging.

    Need help ID'ing lid

I may be an idiot, or just very new to kegging. I can't seem to find a definitive ID of this keg lid: It's a borrowed keg from a friend. I've gone through and replaced all of the o-rings. When I did a pressure test everything was fine except the PRV. So, naturally I when to remove it and...

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

Just checking in with an update...this beer keeps getting better. I finally had the chance to sit by a campfire with some in my glass and talk about being a happy camper. I also passed some along to a co-worker of mine, along with a coffee stout I brewed in May. He really enjoyed both(a...

Irish Red Ale Raging Red Irish Red Ale

I cracked open the first bottle of my attempt at this recipe Thursday night. Admittedly, a little more on the hoppy side than I usually prefer but still tasty. Then yesterday happened. I took a cooler full of homebrew to a BBQ a friend throws annually. Holy cow! Quite the awesome daytime drink...

    Any altoona pa brewers?

The way I usually come up to see you guys is via Rt 36. I find it a bit easier/faster that way. Rt 36 North from Altoona At the Stop Except Right Turn sign in Chest Springs, stop, then go straight. Follow that road(slight left after less than a block) about 3 miles. Shop's on the Right...

    Any altoona pa brewers?

I haven't been over to see Troy at Bootleggers in a while. I should stop in. His hours suck for me so I can't usually get there during his hours.(I believe somebody said earlier his Sat hrs were 12-5, sorry, they're 8-12.) But he's knowledgeable and can point you in the right direction if he...
