    Bay Area beer reccomendations

Linden street for some California common beer, maybe head over to drakes, Marin brewing co, napa smith, or Cali craft.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I was just in Reno, NV for the weekend and went to "Brew Brothers". Their beers were gross. I honestly would rather drink BMC. I tried their IPA, amber, stout, and kolsch btw.

    What's your favorite hot sauce?

Tapatío for cooking with, pico pica as a condiment, and franks on wings.

    Craigslist is awesome!

I buy and sell on CL regularly. My best flip was a '73 AMC Hornet wagon I bought for $700, drove for a year, and sold for $2300. As far as beer deals go, I've come across some decent ones but never pulled the trigger. I generally end up buying new in the store with the difference in price...

Let hear how your weekend brewing ended up?

Brewed a mosaic hop and honey pale ale. Went off without a hitch and I hit all my numbers. Currently bubbling away in my new speidel tank!

Home brewing is becoming more commonplace

I was in the supermarket yesterday, they had Brooklyn Brewery IPA kits for sale in the beer section. $39.99 bought you a 1 gallon carboy, airlock, capper, caps, sugar, and an extract IPA kit.

    anchor christmas ale 2012

Just found some holdout 6ers at a gas station. I taste a hint of black licorice with a little spice in the background...maybe nutmeg or similar. I would describe it as a rich fruitcake thing going on in flavor and aroma, with the aroma highlighting the spicyness. Finishes clean like a lager, but...

    Words and phrases I hate

When "to be" is dropped from a statement. For example: "The car is dirty, it needs to be washed" Vs. "The car is dirty, it needs washed" The latter version drives me up a wall.

    What are you drinking now?

Two bombers of arrogant bastard and some new belgiums my roommate forgot about in an unplugged mini fridge for two years. He decided to throw them away because "they are flat and moldy by now" and I almost punched him. Delicious.

What's the worst craft brew (commercial) you've had?

I cant decide if I love it or hate it, but Marin Platypus Venom is one serious brew. Its an imperial stout with the mouthfeel and taste of anise cough syrup. It has an intriguing flavor complex, but its incredibly difficult to drink.

Poll: What is your investment in homebrewing?

I don't think I'm really into my equipment for much money at this point, I'm guessing <$1000. Most everything I got for free, as gifts, or made myself. I'm also all about buying stuff on sale, even if I don't "need" it. Things I've bought: 5 gal glass carboy $30 6 gal better bottle $25 2 cornys...

    Making the jump

Most may disagree, but I suggest making yourself an igloo MLT and run your first couple batches that way. Really forgiving and helps "ease" into all grain while you figure out how you want to set up your system and what works for you.
