NB Cream Ale w/ White Labs Cream Ale Blend

Well, due too the sudden heat wave, brewing was postponed. I do have a 2000 ml starter bubbling away, however. Tentative brew date now is Monday.

NB Cream Ale w/ White Labs Cream Ale Blend

My goal was to use ripe, in season strawberries. I'm concerned that the freezing and cooking will undermine the idea of using fresh berries. Has anyone tried using fresh berries with any luck?

NB Cream Ale w/ White Labs Cream Ale Blend

This is the link to the kit: http://www.northernbrewer.com/shop/cream-ale-extract-kit.html I don't believe it requires any mashing. None of the reviews mention it. I won't be lagering either, though I may cool the starter down to give the lager yeast a head start.

NB Cream Ale w/ White Labs Cream Ale Blend

So, my next project, which I should be brewing on Thursday is going to be the Northern Brewer Cream Ale extract kit w/ specialty grains brewed w/ the White Labs Cream Ale Blend and then secondaried over some farmer's market strawberries. My plan is to primary in my 6.5 gallon glass carboy for...

    My First Attempt

Do you happen to know what your abv was?

    My First Attempt

Was it a sweet cider or dry? 3 weeks seems fast for a dry cider.

    My First Attempt

So, rather than cluttering up the forums with another post. I'll just tack a question onto this one. In reference to my above batch of cider. How long should I bottle condition? I read somewhere a week per point of alochol. So, this was about 9% abv, meaning 9 weeks, which is coming up next...

Dry Hopping Brewer's Best Amber Ale

I'm considering 2 oz of willamette for 10-14 days at this point, but I'm going to give my beer a sniff and possibly a taste before making my final decision. Any input? The full Brewer's Best ingredients list can be found here.

best beer you have ever tasted

While I was on a Sam Adam's brewery tour in Boston about 5 years ago, we got a bonus pitcher of beer. It was the last of their Chocolate Bock that they'd had on tap for the season... it was April. Fan-&*^%$#@-tastic. It was the early days of my being able to appreciate good beer. A revelation, I...

Dry Hopping Brewer's Best Amber Ale

So, I chose Brewer's Best American Amber for my first beer and brewed it Feb 7, using 1056 for my yeast. I chose my style a bit randomly, so I decided to drink a variety of ambers so I could make an educated comparison when mine finishes. Go figure, ambers are way maltier than I prefer. I'm...

    Airlock Overflow

I haven't had this happen yet, but my understanding is that if you think the overflow is done you can sanitize the airlock and refill like normal. If it still seems to be overflowing, get yourself a sanitized blow off tube and let it droop into a bucket with some star san water in it.

    What are you drinking now?

dwtowler, how is the Brewer's Best Amber? I have that in my primary right now.

    What are you drinking now?

You know you have the right hobby when this is research. I wanted to try a good variety of Amber Ales before my batch gets ready. From left to right... Opa-Opa Red Rock Ale, Ballast Point Amber Ale, Anderson Amber Ale, Troegs Hop Back Amber, Full Sail Amber, Hebrew Genesis Dry Hop Session...

    Beer's Life Expectancy?

I'm answering from things I've read rather than personal experience, but beer can last a long time (we're talking decades) if sanitization was good when it was brewed/bottled and it is kept at cool enough temperatures. How good it will be varies depending on the style of beer. Hops flavors fade...

Just Want to Spread the Joy

My boyfriend brews as well, but he's already had the first batch thrill. He pretty much just pats me on the head. I'm making an American Amber Ale w/ 1056 from a Brewer's Best extract kit. We have a local brewery called Jack's Abbey that specializes in smoked laugers. They've been doing...

Just Want to Spread the Joy

I brewed my first beer last Thursday. I had done a cider before that in a brew bucket and never got the satisfying bubbling in the air lock. Well, I used a 6.5 g carboy this time, and my beer has provided the bubbling I was missing! The yeast are swimming, and it's been blub blubbing since...

The stupidest comment on your beer

Wasn't about home brew, but when I told a co-worker that I was a beer snob and pretty picky, he said, "So... what... you, like, drink Blue Moon?"

    Central Massachusetts

Thanks for the welcome, everyone. I'm brewing my first beer on Thursday. I'm going to do the Brewer's Best American Amber kit, but fancy it up with a liquid yeast starter instead of using the dried that comes with it. I've officially watched/assisted with 3 beer brewing sessions, plus my own...
