    Keezer build question

I'm getting ready to start my keezer build next weekend and have a question. I am planning to use 2x6's for the collar and plan to adhere that to the chest freezer meaning that the lid will open/close on top of the collar. If I use that factory hinges, using 2x6's would mean that the hinge...

Has brewing affected your opinion of commercial beers?

I have definately become more critical but would stop far short of saying that all commercial beers are bland. I think we have seen the craftbrew movement take the term "commercial beer" in a whole new direction. While I still enjoy a tradtional commercial lager based on occasion, like others...

    Austin Homebrew Supply

Had the opportunity to visit AHBS while in Austin last month. Very professional and clean operation. Extremely helpful staff who are passionate about beer. They are my go to place as I don't have a LHBS. Chris

    Primary to secondary question

I don't rack to a secondary...at least haven't yet. Nowhere near an expert but have had good success with just primary. If for no other reason, I worry about increased chance of infection by transferring. Chris

    Better to over or underpitch

Nowhere near an expert, but... Unless you are planning to have a batched judged, a commercial brewer friend of mine told me that it is normally better to over pitch. Not necessarily an issue for you but in general terms always a good idea to plug into a yeast calculator and as I have learned...

    My first fermentation explosion

We always use a blow-off but had our first volcano on an IPA last weekend. Used a stir plate and starter with two smack packs. In hindsight probably over did it on the yeast but was impressive to witness. Seems to be a right of passage. Chris

Funny after taste to all my homebrew

+1 on this. Best to use a calculator and do a starter. Chris

    Islay style IPA

I'd like to know how this one turns out. I'm a big fan of Islay single malts and an IPA fan. Chris

Whats the biggest bonehead mistake you've made while brewing?

Lets see..... * Was reading the wrong side of the thermometer the entire time (C vs F) during a mini-mash brew. * Knocked a small dish of gummy bears into my bottling bucket just after siphoning. Bottled anyway...marginal damage. * Went to give the wort I just put into the carboy to...
