If you like the new Flying Dog Imperial IPA and want to brew it yourself, good news! I emailed the head brewer and he was gracious enough to give me a recipe. Here it is: Hey Justin, Glad you got a chance to try The Truth! I can certainly help you out with a recipe so you can create it at...

    IPA recipe critique

Comments and suggestions welcome. I'm looking for an IPA that has a wonderful piney hop aroma with some fruit in there also. It should have a nice malt backbone that gives way to an almost over the top bitterness, followed by the awesome flavors associated with Citra and Amarillo... 5.5...

    Partial Mash Efficiency Confusion

I recently did my first partial mash, using: 5 LBs Briess Pale Ale Malt .5LBs Briess Crystal 60 4 LBs Briess Light DME (Collected 3.7ish Gal of wort) I wanted to see what efficiency I got out of the mash. So I took a preboil gravity of just the wort that was mashed. I took the...

    Centenniel Hops Low AAs (6.9%)

I recently purchased some hops from midwestsupplies.com and my Centenniel hops were only 6.9%. The cascade hops were 6.8%. I figured that it was just a bad year, but I went to my LHBS and got them for 8.9%. Anyone else had low AA Centenniel hops this year, particularly from midwestsupplies?

    1.071!?!?

So, I brewed up my first "original" recipe yesterday, an APA. My expected OG was 1.051. Here are my fermentables: 6.6 LBS of Golden Light LME (Breiss) 1 LB of Crystal 40L (Breiss) Now... I know that my beer cannot be 1.071, but I'm just a bit curious. I poured my wort into the...

    Oops... Forgot the Grain

I recently ordered ingredients for a American Pale Ale recipe that I came up with. I, however, forgot to order my 1 LB of Crystal 20. I only have the 6.6 lbs of Golden Light LME from Breiss. I know, it's fine, BUT any experience on how just straight extract beer tastes like? I don't think...

Convert this for an extract brew...

I was wondering how I can convert the grain bill here to an extract brew to get the right color, feel, ABV, so on and so forth. Any ideas? By the way, it's the Two Brothers Cane and Abel Red Rye recipe. (from one of the brothers himself) Pils Munich 3% Crystal 10 8% Rye 12% Crystal Rye...

    Thank you, HBT regulars!

I brewed my first batch on Jan 10. It was an American Brown Ale kit I got from Two Brother's Brewery here in Warrenville. As you can imagine, I had many questions and concerns... (My thermometer glass case broke in my wort, FG was not where it should be, and blah blah blah.) I just kept...
