    American IPA Stone Ruination Clone

Got everything prepped to cook up a batch of this today. Couldn't get Pacman, so I'm using a 3L starter of Wyeast 1056. I've been making some really lightly hopped beers lately... Psyched to get a hop monster on tap.

How many gallons of EdWort's Haus Pale Ale have been made?

I've got a batch about ready for cold crash. Pumped to taste it... 4589

Decent corded thermometer??? (and a rant to start)

Cool, thanks... I have a small machine shop next to my house... Bridgeport, small lathe (13.5x40), TIG, etc. It's amazing how much use the lathe gets. Had I known how much use I'd have bought a bigger machine. That's maybe the best lathe buying advice... buy the biggest machine you can, but I...

Rauchbier - how have I gone this long without knowing about this stuff?

I'm with most of you guys in liking a much more subtle smoke flavor. The local British Beer Company put Jack's Abby "Smoke and Dagger" on a Nitro tap. It's absolutely fantastic. Not really a session beer, but damn is it good.

Decent corded thermometer??? (and a rant to start)

Aaaaaah, I already clicked "submit order." Maybe next time. Off topic, but I have seen a bunch of your posts while digging around for Sanke info/sources. When I have a little extra $$ I'll be looking to pick your brain there, if that's cool. I'd love to convert over to Sanke at some point. Maybe...

Decent corded thermometer??? (and a rant to start)

Good point, based on how far off the thermometer readings were my mash was probably way off too... and then I forgot the whirlfloc, chilled too far and dropped my stir bar into the fermenter. Last night was not my night... Thanks. For $30 I'll just roll the dice. I feel better doing so...

Decent corded thermometer??? (and a rant to start)

Cool, thanks for the reply. Think I'll order one. Is it relatively quick reading? PS- We're neighbors... I live just over the border in the mean streets of Chelmsford.

Decent corded thermometer??? (and a rant to start)

I'm in the market myself... Brewed an Alt last night that may end up going down the drain due to a wonky thermometer (and my not realizing it soon enough). Ugh. Sparge was too cold, resulting in a whopping 1.023 OG :/ I added some boiled light DME, but I may just cut my losses and dump it when I...

Show us your DIY stir plate!

Kind of plain jane, but it works pretty well. I have a 2L Flask on order. I used a 110V fan and a plug-in dimmer. I have a really good electronics store locally and the staff are guys that generally know their stuff. One of the guys I've had help me before recommended that I use a 110V fan and...

    Cream Ale Fizzy Yellow Beer

I kegged a batch of this yesterday. Took a little taste after letting it sit on the gas for 24 hours. Wow. It's absolutely fantastic.

Made a stout wiyh vanilla bean how to tame flavor?

Yup. Give it time. I have a Vanilla Stout in the keg now. It just keeps getting better. Now if I could just stop drinking it :/

First Brew Day Of 2013!!! What are you making?

5.5 of Ed Wort's Haus Pale Ale here. Primary airlock was going crazy last night.

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Yeah, I came home from work last night and the airlock was going bananas. (I pitched 2 packets of US-05)

American Pale Ale Bee Cave Brewery Haus Pale Ale

Brewed an all-grain batch of this last night. I'm still new to all-grain, but had a really good session where I hit all my numbers on the nose. Felt pretty good! I also noticed really pronounced hot and cold breaks. Hoping this comes out nice and clear. Had to go with Crystal 20, 7.7% Cascade...

What was responsible for your biggest improvement?

Thanks guys. My most recent batch is a Kolsch because I was seeing steady 60 degree temps in my basement. I figured I might as well pick something that works in the temps that I had available. It was also my first yeast starter. That Wyeast 2565 is pretty aggressive stuff! A fermentation...

What was responsible for your biggest improvement?

I've been brewing extract recipes casually for a couple of years now and have recently gotten more invested in brewing.... I started kegging and brewing all-grain batches. I'm starting to feel like I understand the art and science a little bit better, but I still have much to learn. For...
