    Cluster Hops

I made a hop tea to get a sense of aroma, taste and bitterness. The aroma was kind of floral but not pronounced and it was exceedingly bitter. I will plan on a one gallon recipe and will just do a 15 minute brew and if not happy with the taste will just use them for bittering. FYI there are...

    Cluster Hops

I am getting ready to harvest my hops and am looking for a good ale or ESB recipe. I got the plant from my Dad who said it was from the old commercial hop fields when he was a kid and thought it was named Cluster. I know Cluster is mainly know as a bittering hop but I may try it as a small one...

You know you're a home brewer when?

We usually brew 1 to 2.5 gallon BIAB batches. Occasionally I will do a 5 gallon batch but it's just the two of us and I really enjoy the process and like to brew more often. Average brew time on small batch is less than 3 hours including clean up so it is perfect for us. I'll leave the heavy...

You know you're a home brewer when?

When your husband asks you want you want for 25th wedding anniversary and laughs when you say an 8 gallon Megapot kettle instead of jewelry. Well it was silver colored so technically it was appropriate.

Has anyone used Aronia (Black Chokeberry)?

I haven't used it for a beer but a friend from my brew group turned 20 pounds I grew into wine for me but I'm just not a wine person. I used the other 20 pounds to make jam for Christmas presents. I am planning to add some of my honey berries in secondary on a wit or a sour.

    Ingredient Question: Dark Crystal 350

Most of the recipes on Brew Dog DIY list Dark Crystal or Extra Dark Crystal but several of them list Dark Crystal 350 wasn't sure if that meant regular dark crystal or not. Reading through other recipes for their stouts they list chocolate malt in ingredients so it is probably just regular dark...

I looked on Northern Brewer, More Beer and Midwest but am unable to locate dark crystal 350. Is UK dark crystal 350 the same as chocolate malt 350?

    Organization Tips For Homebrewers

I totally agree. The closest home brew shop is 4 hour round trip so I have to keep stocked up and organized. I use 5 gallon buckets with gamma lids for base malts and smaller clear square airtight boxes from the dollar store for specialty malts so I can quickly see what I need to reorder. P...

    Belhaven Scottish Stout clone?

We bottled ours yesterday and I was exceedingly happy with the little we tasted. Can't wait to try it when it is done. Based on this recipe I am definitely asking my husband to buy the Beer Captured book for my birthday!

How to add permanent volume markings to a kettle (illustrated)

Well done! Thank you for sharing this I can't wait to try it out. My Mega pot came with gallon markings but adding quart markings is brilliant. I would also like to make the numbers larger so they are easier to read through steam cloud.
