    Friend tried Alpha King

Funny little story here.... My wife ran across some Alpha King at the store and brought some home. That same night, my buddy stops by asks for something to drink so I told him to try some Alpha King (he never heard of it before). After a small sip he makes the same face a baby does the first...

WYeast 2124 Bohemian lager not fermenting 5 days

So I thought the airlock was bubbling but it didn't last long at all. Since then, I've taken the gravity reading a few times and it is still the same as the og reading. It has been 8/9 days and no fermenting at a controlled 50*. This was the first time that I smacked it immediately before I...

Thanks guys. I changed the airlock this morning and it started bubbling a little bit later. I think something was wrong with the airlock....

WYeast 2124 Bohemian lager not fermenting 5 days

I pitched 2124 Bohemian lager on Sunday. It has been in my fridge @ ~ 50* for 5 days and so far no signs of fermentation. Is this normal? If it doesn't ferment soon should I pitch another one? Thanks

    Question about relocating my hops

This is the first year I purchased hops (from freshops). I planted 6 different varieties in spring. The tallest one is about 6/7 feet and the shortest one is only 3 feet or so. None of them have produced any cones. I think this happened because that area gets less sunlight than I originally...

I drain into a one gallon pitcher, then transfer each gallon to the boil kettle. That way I can keep track of how much I collect.

Not as fancy as Nate's but it does the job. Nice sculpture Nate, you've got the real deal!

First I tried from my hd, then I figured that didn't work and tried to upload my pictures to flickr but our firewall doesn't allow us to upload files.

    WTF is this monster?

I went to photobucket (courtesy of Richab) to take another look at that weird looking time machine and stumbled across some other extremely strange pictures. One picture, looks more like a power point slide, says "Now is the time, the most unique business opportunity if 5 decades" Another is...

Ever notice ones you go all grain, it consumes you?

My wife calls homebrewing "your other wife". The funny thing is that she truly enjoys drinking it and encourages me to buy new homebrew toys (very dangerous thing for her to do). I already got two other people as equally addicted as I. Best hobby ever.

10 gallon round gott cooler with false bottom

I have a plastic false bottom similar to your ss one. The first time I went all grain, I had a stuck sparge. Since then, I wrapped a grain cloth (cheese cloth) around the false bottom and never have had stuck sparges since then. Also, my runnings are perfectly clear.

getting accurate gravity readings during sparge

Thanks for the link, that is very helpful! what happens if you fall below the 1.008 mark?

getting accurate gravity readings during sparge

This may be just a noob question, but here it goes: I was told that gravity readings are not very accurate if the runnings are very hot. I was brewing last night, watching the gravity readings to ensure that I didn't go below the 1.008 - 1.012 reading but I know it couldn't have been...
