    Help with my lager

Hello all. This past weekend I brewed an Oktoberfest lager using WLP830. It is currently happily fermenting in my swamp cooler at a reasonably constant 53 degrees. My question: I am leaving for my honeymoon in one week, and I am certain it will not be done fermenting. I will not be able to watch...

    Chilling question...

Excellent, thank you. I will get a better pump (I like the idea of the drill pump) rather than a bigger chiller. I can use hose water to get it to around 90 degrees, then switch over to the ice water and pump setup. Thanks, y'all.

    Chilling question...

Thank you...i should be more clear. I have a cheap aquarium-type pump that i used over the weekend, but it's capacity is too low. I thought it would be better to get a pump with more horsepower...

    Chilling question...

I currently brew 5 gallon batches of all grain, and I use a 25 foot stainless steel immersion chiller. As you can imagine, it can sometimes take 20 or 30 minutes to chill to pitching temperatures, and I anticipate that taking even longer as we get into the summer. So my question: am I better...

    Elderflower beer

I made one with 1 oz of dried flowers, and it was too much-I hated it.

    Is my beer finished?

So i brewed two 5 gallon batches of lager a few weeks ago, and it has been fermenting away in my garage since then. The temperature fluctuates moderately between 49 and 54. I took a reading this morning with my refractometer, and i got 6.0 for one batch, 8.0 for the other. I don't really...

    Waterproofing my thermometer

Hello all. My third digital probe-style thermometer has just crapped out, so I need a replacement. I am wondering if anyone knows a foolproof way to waterproof those leads-I want to invest in a wireless thermometer so I can watch the temp from inside the house, but no one I know of sells...

    German honey lager - Kottbusser?

Kotbusser is currently my favorite beer. I have brewed it three times already this year, and i will probably do it again soon. Here is my recipe (if you can ferment at 62 degrees, it will taste better).

    Recipe critique?

Thank you-i am sure you are right. Maybe I will scrap the educational portion of this exercise and just hope that it turns out tasty.

    Recipe critique?

Hi all. I am a veteran brewer, but have never really taken the time to learn about the characteristics of specific malts. In addition, i was looking through my ingredients, and i have a lot of leftover malts. So i thought i would make a franken-brew and try to learn about the ingredients. It...

Virginia Trade my 10 gallon kettle

Sorry, but isn't 40 qts the same as 10 gallons? What are the dimensions?

Virginia Trade my 10 gallon kettle

Hmmm. I never thought of that. It's gas, but i guess it would come out 12" or so.

Virginia Trade my 10 gallon kettle

Hi all. I just moved n with my girlfriend, and my 10 gallon kettle does not quite fit on her stovetop-the vent is 1 inch too low. Does anyone have a SLIGHTLY smaller kettle they would trade. Mine is a SS Tall Boy from Northern Brewer-10 gallons. I would go as low as 8 gallons if necessary, but...

    What do you think?

I just recently brewed a kolsch and a kottbusser, and my local homebrew club is having a competition. The category is BJCP Amber and Light Hybrids. I used WPL 029 for both beers-could i enter them in that category?

Critique for a cream ale recipe?

Thank you again. I don't have any instant rice-what is the process for using long grain rice? I have never used that before.

Critique for a cream ale recipe?

Crisp and a little dry would be great.

Critique for a cream ale recipe?

Thank you-maybe cut the honey malt in half? What adjunct would you use? I think i have flaked oats and flaked barley on hand. Not sure i have any rice.
