I brewed today... man am I bushed!

Not exhausted...More relieved. I just brewed yesterday after not brewing for 6 months, due to being too damn busy to brew. Went well, but I do brew differently than most. I do a partial boil(4 gallons), then top off in fermenter. I still put in about 11lbs of grain(dependent on recipe), with the...

    Issue with Irish moss

I use half Tablespoon at 15 minutes. Cool down, I always filter out hops. what Irish Moss does is coagulate the hops(gets them thicker), less finer particles go through the strainer.

    Mashtun Size

If Space/Time is limited...I use a 5 gallon Rubbermaid round DYI mash tun(Menards green one). 5 gallon SS pot(4 gallon boils) top off in fermenter. I use beersmith to help with recipe adjustments. The smaller pot will reduce your brew day by about an hour or more. I have limitations to using a...

    full boil?

I have a 5 gallon pot, do 4 gallon boils(add the initial hop addition off the burner to avoid boilovers). Top off in the fermenter. Usually boils down to about 3.25 to 3.5 gallons. Makes some great beer. use beersmith for my recipe adjustments.

    No Hydrometer

i just put the hydrometer in the fermenting bucket, you don't need to use the sample tube.

Why does everyone make their brewday so stressfull and expensive

I have had shared my beer with friends and the LHBS, and have been told it is excellent, and they are wanting more. Thats all I need for knowing I am doing brewing the right way. I don't stress over rehydrating my yeast( I used to). The strainer thing seems to do the trick with the aeration...

Why does everyone make their brewday so stressfull and expensive

Brewing is easy. All grain is easy. Figure out how much strike water you need, heat it up. Grind your grain(if it isn't preground at the LHBS). mash the grain. Drain the wort, Sparge to boil volume. Boil, adding hops at the right times. Cool wort to pitching temp. Pour wort into fermenter, Top...

    Oxygen Setup

I have rehydrated yeast in the past and found it makes for a more stressful brew day. Plus I see no difference in the quality of my beers. Aeration, I have tried to aerate my wort also, again with no difference in quality. the yeast may ferment quicker with aeration, but doesn't produce a better...

Is 5 oz. too much primer?

http://www.brewersfriend.com/beer-priming-calculator/ some info to check out. I usually use 4.3 oz in my ales.

    Oxygen Setup

talk about overthinking the process? I never worry about getting oxygen into my wort. But I pour my wort through a strainer into my plastic pail fermenter(does the oxygenation real well). Pitch dry yeast(no rehydration), and guess what I made some real good beer at a cut rate price.

    day 2 Boil??

my brew day is only 4 hrs, but I do partial boils of 4 gallons(less time waiting for water to heat up or wort to boil). But I try to do things efficiently, Grind grain while water is heating, clean mash tun while wort is raising to boil temp, discard grain in the same time frame. Clean utensils...

    Capping

I use the red baron capper. Use either New belgium, Sam Adams, or Goose Island bottles. Never had a problem.

    A question about bottle bombs

Don't stick them in the freezer and forget about them, they will explode in there. Was running out of beer the other night and decided to put 2 in the freezer(usually do this for 30 minutes), but forgot about them. I think my inebriated state had something to do about forgetting them.

    Boil size

I have a 5 gallon pot and a 5 gallon mash tun, make 5. 25 gallon batches. What I do is(using beersmith) figuring out my mash water volume(1.25 qt water per pound of grain). I drain the mash tun and run the wort, then batch sparge to 4 gallons for the boil. Usually boils down to 3.5 gallon with a...

    Ingredients supplier?

Always use www.ritebrew.com, Neil does a great job with getting the orders out. I always have my order ready for pickup the next day, no matter how late I put my order in. He is based out of Little Chute, WI. I live 20 miles away so, it is easier for me to pick up, than pay the relatively cheap...

    Brewpot question

I just pour the wort through a strainer into my Fermenting bucket. The strainer also helps with aeration.
