Just brewed this yesterday and subbed Amarillo with 50/50 Cascade & Ahtanum.

We're putting this recipe on our brew schedule but it seems that Amarillo is in short supply and out of stock at most distributors. As an alternative, we're planning on using Cascade and Ahtanum. Any comments?

Thanks for posting this! We'll be making a bock and I've been racking my brain (does that mean I've been siphoning off gray matter?) over starter sizes. This calculator is so much better than Mr. Malty since it provides added steps.

You're right, it didn't make any sense! After additional research, I've contacted the LHBS and they will replace the yeast pack with one that was manufactured in November. Still planing to go ahead and make a 2 step starter. Thanks for helping me see the light.

Thanks for the suggestion but the LHBS isn't exactly local. OTOH, I've decided to do a 2 step starter so that should help.

May be committing brewicide, but didn't realize the date on the Wyeast 2206 was over 6 months old when I bought it (my bad). It's a hassle to bring it back to the LHBS. I'll be making a 2L starter a few days before brew day and then will cold crash and decant before pitching. It will be...

Oh well, Ranco is being delivered today. Did not get the pre-wired one. From what I've read, if you set the differential properly, and correctly mount the probe, you won't have an issue with short cycles. Freezer is going in the basement.

Thanks. This freezer will be used for fermenting & lagering (of course at different times) and I have a separate dual tap kegerator for dispensing.
