    perfect recipe for maris otter

I scored some Maris Otter LME and I would like some pointers from more experienced brewers. I've never used it before and would like to do a recipe that will showcase the maris otter flavor and be an english style beer. Lastly, it should be a delicious beer. Anyone have recommendations?

    funky off-flavors

Ok guys, I've done ten 5-gallon batches now, most of which have been all-grain. However, I'm still somewhat of a noob, so I will ask this question: First of all, I made two beers that weekend, one was Amber Ale and the other was Brown Ale. Both were fermented 3 weeks in primary, then...

What kind of hops are these?

I was offered a bunch of hops from a guy who has a bunch of them growing in his garden but he doesn't know what type they are. How can I find out what kind they are?

do hop flavors mellow out with time?

I brewed a batch that was supposed to simulate Red Chair NWPA. It's not really a clone because I picked out caramel malts that weren't supposed to turn out as sweet as Red Chair is. Anyway, I used 1 oz Citra at 60 m, 1 oz Citra at 15 m, and 1 oz Cascade at flameout. Now it is bottled, but...

    temperature question

It was really hot in the house sunday when I brewed a batch of pale ale and it stayed above 75 degrees for about 24 hours. Several reasons for this- thermostat was set at 70 degrees, I brewed in the kitchen, thus heating up the house and it was hot outside that day. Kind of a perfect storm of...

    brag moment

I've been everywhere in my area looking and all the Red Chair NWPA is sold out for the season. I however, happened to have the foresight to brew up a clone a few weeks ago, which is going to be ready to drink shortly. This of course means that I will be able to enjoy a fine beer which is...

    is my bucket ruined?

I used one of my fermenter buckets for blowoff and didn't clean it until several days after I bottled the beer. it had mold in in it and I was wondering if the bucket is now ruined for fermenting or if it will be ok if I sanitize and clean it really well?

    barley wine

I just went out of my way today to find my first barleywine after reading some posts about it, and all I can say is "WOW"! I've got to brew some of this! I don't care that I have to wait a year or more for it to mature, I'm loving it. So, does anyone have any recommendations as to which...

Recipe I am trying to develop

I ended up with a 50 lb sack of 6-row and now I'm trying to find ways to use it up. After researching the types of beers that use 6 row and following some suggestions found throughout the web, I came up with this recipe proposal for a cream ale- 8 lb 6-row 1.5 lb flaked corn 1 lb Briess...

    Galaxy hops

I've heard a lot of good things about Galaxy hops. What type of beer should I use them in and should I use them for bittering, flavor or aroma?

    Which hops should I try?

I've been reading a little about various types of hops and want to know what more experienced brewers think. I'm going to order multiple varieties of hops to try out in the next couple all-grain batches I do. One batch is a Red Chair NWPA clone and the other is going to be an Oktoberfest...

    Dang it! Advice please.

made a batch of Red Ale from Brewer's Best and my SG was 1.030 and I needed to hit 1.048. I guess I added too much water at the end.(trying out my new carboy and wasn't sure how much to add) And of course without thinking I already pitched the yeast. Does this mean I'm just going to end up...

    Clone beer advice

I put together a clone recipe for Deschutes Red Chair NWPA with the help of the beer guy at the LHBS. I mentioned to him that I would like to tone down the sweetness a little with the clone but essentially keep everything else as close as possible. He suggested this- 10# 2-Row 12 oz 45L 4...

    good deals on malted barley

I'm the kind of guy that likes to look for the tricks and the loopholes in search of the best deal. That being said, my attempts thus far at getting what I consider to be a deal on some bulk malted barley have been pretty much stuffed. The local HBS sold me a 50 # bag of 6 row for 48.00 and...

    Beer Snob top beer?

I've just recently dove into this homebrewing hobby and as I attempt to hobnob with bona fide beer snobs I have noticed a reverence amongst snobs for a beer called Pliny the Elder. My buddy from Oregon thinks it is beer sent from God himself, and says it is difficult to get. So I am curious...
