    Simple electric boiling question

I use a variable ssr that came with a pot to control it very simple and it runs my 4500w kettle fine. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1pc-KYOTTO-AC-Solid-State-Relay-SSR-KR2040AX-280VAC-40A-/140553987088

    "long lines" orthodoxy

i haven't got into kegging at all but from a physics point of view, if the objective of longer lines is to slow the flow of the fluid through the lines, larger diameter lines would achieve the same results. No? The whole Venturi effect thing. Now if this works for kegging, I know this not.

Can you spot the ground fault?

on my kettle I over tighten the collar going into the box and crushed the insulation on one of the power lines which then touch the ground making it dump straight to ground.

    Canadian Roll Call!!

Canada Malt is a 5min drive from my house but yet if I want grains from them I would have to drive to Montreal or Calgary, both are about the same distance from me. It's cheaper for me to Order from Austin Homebrew Supplies and drive to the border. Sumtin ain't right there.

All Grain Apartment Brewing: Will a 1500W/120V element boil 6 gallons?

it would be the total surface area and that is not a copy and paste it's a heat calc formula that I use every day (work for an industrial engineering consulting firm) . Yes it isn't going to be completly accurate because more heat does rise from the top the from the sides and more from ths...

All Grain Apartment Brewing: Will a 1500W/120V element boil 6 gallons?

    Energy loss would be calculated with: btu/min = A * dT / (R * 60) 1 kW = 56.87btu / min so: kW = 56.87 x A x dT / (R x 60) where: A = square area of vessel (in sq ft) dT = difference it temp (From outside the vessel and the liquid temp) R = the insulating value have fun...

    Show us your labels

I haven't bottled this mead yet but this is the label I was thinking of using. I was going for a clean look but it kinda pales in comparison to the other ones here so I might have to spruce it up some first. LoL

    Hoppy Mead ?

There is a recipe for a "hoppy mead" https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f80/autumn-spiced-braggot-82552/ I think when you add hops to mead its also/technically known as mead. But I only have about 5 weeks/1 batch of mead making under my belt so I could be mistaken :ban:
