Excellent. That makes sense. Thank you

    Hop addition / Cooling question

So wait a second. We plan on straining but when you say you dump everything into the fermenter are you saying you strain those bags. Then rack the wort into the fermenter, put those hop bags into the fermenter and then pitch your yeast?

    Hop addition / Cooling question

I'm using hop pellets. So you suggest leave them in the whole time?

    Hop addition / Cooling question

Newbie question. Do you guys remove all hop bags and strain before starting with the immersion cooler? Thanks for your response.

American IPA Lazy Day SESSION IPA - 2nd Place!

I'm looking to do a session IPA and this looks delicious. I only have the capability of doing 5 gallon batches. What's the best way to adjust the grain and hop bill? I'm a newbie...only done about a dozen all grain batches and I don't have a beersmith program. Thanks

Experimental Beer Slim's Graham Cracker Ale 2.0

Thanks for the response. How much vanilla extract would you suggest? Should I dump it into the primary or mix into the bottling bucket? Thanks again

Experimental Beer Slim's Graham Cracker Ale 2.0

So I have this in my primary at the moment. I have never used vanilla bean before and was wondering if it was totally necessary and if so what's the best practice? Thanks

Experimental Beer Slim's Graham Cracker Ale 2.0

I am brewing this up next week. My only question is about the vodka and vanilla beans. How much vodka do you use to soak the vanilla beans, and how long do you soak them for? Thanks in advance.

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

Also I will be toasting the malt tonight. After toasting I am going to let it sit in a paper bag until we brew. Should I crush them before putting them in the bag (after toasting of course) or crush them on my brew day? Thanks again

Autumn Seasonal Beer Samhain Pumpkin Ale

I am planning on brewing this beer this weekend hopefully. I just read through all 25 pages of this thread as well....so I think I am ready for it, as this will only be my 3rd all grain batch. I was thinking of adding vanilla extract and saw that some people did so. I strictly bottle at this...

    No bubbles

It is indeed one of the ale pale type. As far as I can tell the lid and airlock are on tight. I will take a reading on Saturday to see if there is a change. I just wasn't sure what to do. I am still new to brewing in general let alone all grain, and this is the first time I have come across...

    No bubbles

Hey everyone. This past Saturday, my friend and I completed our second all grain brew (kolsch). Everything seemed to go pretty well. We had a 60 percent efficiency which s what we were shooting for. We also hit our OG reading right on the nose. We got down to a proper pitching temp and pitched...

    The Hoptopus

Did you dry hop starting at 2 weeks taking the primary fermentation to 3 weeks or did you start the dry hopping at 3 weeks for a total of 4 weeks in the frementor? Thanks

    The Hoptopus

Brewed it today and I think it went well for my first all grain batch. I did add the cascade hops at 60 just to see what would happen. I ended up with a OG of 1.065 though. Don't know why. Any reasons you can think of? I think it should turn out good in the end though. Cheers

    The Hoptopus

I am actually brewing this beer this weekend. It is also my first attempt at all grain, and I am pretty excited. I know opinions vary on the amount of strike water used for mashing. Anywhere between 1-2 quarts per pound of grain. I was thinking of 1.25 qts per pound, but wanted to know how much...

    Wort chillers and mash tun

A friend and myself are making the jump from extract to all grain very soon and I just had a couple newbie questions. We are looking at wort chillers and debating between a plate and a immersion chiller. What does everyone think works best and is easiest to use? I am building a mash tun out of...

    Fermenting issue?

Thanks. It's only my second batch so i worry easily. It is in a bucket, but i did just buy a second bucket as well as a carboy so I can start getting a pipeline going. I think I like the idea of using the carboy because it is clear and I can see what is going on. What Is the easiest way to...

    Fermenting issue?

So I started a batch on Friday night. I went down to the basement to check on the airlock for signs of life. There are air bubbles in the airlock, but no active bubbles at all. Should I be concerned or just be patient and know that the yeast is taking care of my beer? Or should I possibly...
