12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

I received the gingerbread ale tonight. All 3 bottles sage and sound. The only 2 left for me are the gruit, that was supposed to arrive tonight. Ups has been holding on to it 15 miles away for 2 days now. And the crabapple lambicky ale. Ready for a day off Wednesday to try a couple that I...

12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

Thanks for the positive feedback on both beers. The reviews I've gotten on the Christmas ale (my wife begged me to label it Christmas bliss) have been real hjt or miss. I actually brewed it may 2012. So it seems that age has been good to it. Anyone heard from obscurebrewing? Just wondering if...

12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

Also, I've never really ventured outside of mostly american styles. Maybe Irish style for all the stout I like to drink. I've never had a Belgian before and I am drinking one of the caramel quads right now. Now obviously it is spiced and recipes are different everywhere but I guess the question...

12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

Just received the abbey weizen and the saffron trippel. All the trippels are intact. One of the weizens leaked just a couple drops inside the cryovac. Just enough to get the aroma of homebrew inside. More of an air freshener than an issue.

Just received caramel quad and spiced stout tonight. All intact and put in the chest freezer for safe keeping.

12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

Just received the honey ginger IPA. One bottle leaked a little, less than an ounce. The cap was leaking CO2 when I got the box open. I missed the ups guy by about 5 seconds and he probably dropped the box on my porch. Just recapped and threw in the fridge. Can't wait to try it

12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

Just shipped out everyone's presents. The people in line behind me seemed angry about me shipping 13 packages any once. Oops. Some are slated to arrive as early as Monday. Most were Wednesday or Thursday. I'll send everyone a pm with your tracking number. Just FYI for those who haven't...

12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

Thought I'd give the dunkel one more taste before shipping time. Its been bottled about 8-9 weeks now. All the green flavor and overly spiced flavors are gone. The spices and ginger are a little subtle but definitely there. I can tell that this is a Christmas spiced beer. Appearance is still a...

12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

Bottled the dunkel weizenbock today. Everything went smooth. I'll give them a month to sit and take another taste. The ginger in the secondary was pretty strong. Actually, the spices overtook the entire flavor of the beer. It didn't seem this pronounced when transferring from primary to...

Funny things you've overheard about beer

Had a black tire at a bar in houston. Wasn't terrible. Wasn't anything special either. Was at an outback on a business trip in west Virginia a couple weeks ago. Waitress ran down the tap list that was all BMC and one great lakes beer. Being from the cleveland area and now living in houston, i...

What do you do while your beer is brewing?

I usually bottle a batch. Rack to bottling bucket towards the end of mashing and bottle during the boil. Two tasks and only one cleanup. Plus I can't stand to see buckets just sitting there empty.

12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

Racked the weizenbock to secondary last night and added 2oz chopped candied ginger. Pleased to see a small krausen forming this morning. Also took my first taste. The spices are surprisingly subtle and for warm, flat 6.5% beer, it tasted pretty good. I was a little nervous about the flavor...

    Bottling day mis-hap

Just a quick update for posterity. I ended up leaving the bottling bucket 3 more weeks at 34 degrees before bottling. Every bottle in the first case came out perfect carb. On to the second case tonight.

American Amber Ale Fat Tire Clone

I brewed this recipe in April. I did not stir priming sugar well and got very uneven carb that borderline ruined 35-40 of the bottles. But the ones that were carved properly were awesome. I'm brewing it again as we speak. There is a very slight subtle taste that is not quite fat tire, but its...

12 Beers of Christmas 2013 Edition! (Need Brewers!)

Took third FG reading today. At a stable 1.015. Will secondary tomorrow and add ginger next Saturday right before I go out of town. Ready to bottle an hour after I land on sept 7

Haha. I do the same thing with fat tire.

    Brewing WITH beer?!

I would imagine that colors has a pretty low FG anyways. You could always boil a bottle worth and take a gravity reading from that to see any changes. If you try it, keep posting. I'm just curious as to how it would turn out. For what it's worth, a coors light shouldn't impart too much flavor...
