NE IPA with Irish Ale Yeast

Before I try it, I wonder if anyone has tried making a NE IPA with WLP004, Wyeast 1084 or OYL-005. Seems worth trying, but I am a little concerned about Diacetyl.

    Easy Clean vs. One Step

These are not the same according to the "Composition/Information on Ingredients" section of the MSDS's. Easy Clean: https://storefront.ldcarlson.com/storefrontCommerce/binaryContent.do?contentKey=ac7e3b4d-ddaa-4dfb-ac44-b5a59546039f Sodium Percarbonate 15630-89-4 Sodium Sulfate 7757-82-6...

    Castle Pilsen Acidified?

More info in the thread below. I performed the distilled test you recommended, which confirmed it's acidified. http://forum.northernbrewer.com/t/castle-pilsen-acidified/6115/12 The interesting bit from yesterday's brew is that the alternative color input I used in Bru'n Water seems to have...

    Castle Pilsen Acidified?

Yesterday I used Castle Pils for the first time since starting this thread. To test my theory, I input 16°L as the assumed color on the Malt Acidification worksheet in Bru'n Water. Target mash pH: 5.23 Measured mash pH: 5.26

    Wort Filtration Before Plate Chiller

Thanks for the responses. I do not recirculate during the entire mash, but I do recirculate for a while at the end of the mash to ensure I have very clear runnings before I transfer to the kettle. I have not had any problems getting solids in the chiller. My problem is the filter in...

    Wort Filtration Before Plate Chiller

I have been using a plate chiller for a few years in conjunction with a March pump. I love how ridiculously fast it chills, but I have yet to find a kettle filter that does not also clog frequently and/or reduce hop utilization. Here is what I've tried: Hop Spider Hop basket (I've tried...

    Post Your Final Beer pH

US-05 post-boil: 5.27 finished: 4.40 This was a 100% Rahr 2-row DIPA with 12 oz of hops in the kettle. I was very happy with the flavor profile. Definitely cleaner and less muddled than IPA's that finished above 4.6.

    Post Your Final Beer pH

In June I had an opportunity to discuss brewing APAs and IPA's with Steve Dressler (which was pretty freaking awesome, by the way). He confirmed that the secret is push your kettle pH down if your yeast is a low acid producer like 1056/WLP001. To my surprise, he said they actually mash...

    Chapman ThermoBarrel Reviews

After not having time to brew for two months, I've finally been able to brew a couple more batches using my ThermoBarrel. Temp loss was insignificant over a one hour mash. On the second batch, which was the same recipe as the first one + 12 ounces of roasted grains. M+L efficiency was...

How Do You Design Beer Recipes (Poll)?

Sorry all, had to step away after posting the thread and before the poll was added. Didn't realize the thread would be created before the poll had been added. Anyway, the poll has now been added. Thanks for your responses so far.

How Do You Design Beer Recipes (Poll)?

What primary tool do you use to formulate your beer recipes? Apologies in advance if I've missed one that is widely used. This will be helpful as I work on a project for my homebrew club. Thanks for responding.

    Chapman ThermoBarrel Reviews

It's not matter of what people have to do...it's just a matter of what's practical. You know: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. How do you know if it's broke if you don't try it out first? KevinP's explanation makes sense given his unique system, but as I said before, it would be...
