    Serving a commercial keg..

Did you ever figure this out? I have the same issue. Commercial keg burps a blast of foam and gas then pours nice clean beer. Not too much of an issue because the foam settles out pretty quickly and I can always top it off. Just trying to get my setup as good as can be.

    several keg issues

Thanks again for the great advice. I tried cranking the psi and submersing the connections. Found two and tightened them and it seems to be holding. I was confused that both the commercial and corny kegs lost pressure but the gas in was leaky on both. (I bought the lube too just in case. If...

    several keg issues

Thanks everyone. I had not thought of beverage lube. I did not even look at it not knowing why I would want to lube a beverage. Also they sell it by the line leak foam so I thought it was some unnecessary gimmick product. Guess that is what I get for judging a book by its cover.

    several keg issues

Howdy HBT. I have a handful of keg issues going on and one of the problems of being new to kegging is I don't quite know how to describe the issues. I hope the beer gods will look past these basic questions and help me out so that I can learn and return the favor in the future. Setup: 5...

    over two week fermentation?

Thanks guys that is likely what its going on with the secondaries. However with the primary I was using bubbling within the beer itself and that was quiet vigorous. Did not know about atmosphere changes though, that is pretty interesting.

    over two week fermentation?

I know my beer will be OK, I'm just looking for a bit of education and context. Did beermunchers Newcastle clone. Messed up my volume (nearly filled my 3 gal carboy to the brim) and pitching (could only get about 3/4 of wyeast pack in) but everything got off to a great start. But I had solid...

British Brown Ale Aberdeen Brown Ale (NewCastle Clone) AG

Hey BM or anyone who has brewed this. When filling my primary I took my eye off the carboy and ended up filling her up pretty high. This meant that when I added yeast it filled up to the brim and there was a bit of yeast left over. I do 3 gal batches so figure this is not a prob. Had a...

Specialty IPA: Black IPA Heavenly Scourge Black IIPA

nice how old is the beer in the pic? that is really nice foam!

    BIAB Black as night IIPA.

This is an example of a happy accident, took a bad gravity reading so I added more extract. Ended up boosting the abv to 13.2%. But this beer is really smooth for as boozy as it is. Last one I cracked was 6 weeks in the bottle and it was just starting to carb up. Don't really know if it would be...

To Secondary or Not? John Palmer and Jamil Zainasheff Weigh In

Thanks for the comments Revvy I learn from nearly every post you throw up. I do a 2ndary to keep the yeast out of the bottle, (dont like drinking yeast paste). But for my next batch I will let it sit in the primary to really compact. One question, I do 3 gal batches do you think that will...

    Android apps?

Awesome! A day before brew day I look for and DL any new app. All have disappointed. I want an app to execute beer Smith not create. Ideally it would help with timing and measurement. Notes and trouble shooting would be a bonus. By trouble shooting I mean if your gravity is low how much dme...

    Can I.....?

+1 on tasting along the way. Only one way for you to learn! Also, when do you get to drink beer in the name of science?

A couple questions the books & guides don't answer

For the yeast starter what size is your batch and who supplies your yeast? If you are using a wyeast smack pack you should be straight especially of it is a small batch, (5 gal or less). Also, if you are happy with your results then keep doing what you are doing. Do a yeast starter because 1)...

Never dump your beer!!! Patience IS a virtue!!! Time heals all things, even beer!

You give me, (like many others) hope Revvy. I like how this thread is both a wall of shame and in many cases redemption. So I'd like to add my bit. Recently had a b-day so I upgraded a lot of my kit. Did a tweaked version of a batch I had done before and thinking I was cleaver tried a couple of...

First Brew Seems Cloudy in Bottle

Did you use a secondary? I've seen that opinions on secondaries are pretty split around here but I use them. My first batch I did not use a secondary and I had what you described. I used 1 liter bottles so there was actually a good deal of sediment. But since I've started using secondaries I...

    cloudy on top

Thanks for the Reply Zeal. I used Wyeast 1450 Denny's Fav. Thing is this is the 2ndary and has been in there for about 5 days and that is off of a 10day primary. If it is yeast shouldn't it settle?
