Spike 15 gallon and Blichman Hellfire

Hey folks, I have a 15 gallon Spike Kettle with side pick up tube and spike 3 PC ball valve. Also have a Blichman Hellfire. Both have about 15 brews on them or less, purchased a year and half ago. I still have original boxes and can ship at buyers expense. Ups. How about 350 for both.

    Spike Flex Plus

Hey Folks- Looking hard at purchasing one of these. I use a chest freezer to control fermentation temps. I know a lot of these were sold during the 25% off sale a month of so ago. Are you owners picking up full vessels and placing them in your fermentation fridge? I read about the warning...

Hornindal Kveik in american white ale?

Has anyone tried it? I've never used this yeast but purchased it to do a quick light beer while my fermentation fridge is occupied with a lager. The citrus esters I hear about would go nice with my blue moonish american white ale, right? I usually use 001 for this recipe. Thanks for any...

    Thermobarrel

I recently purchased a 15 gallon Chapman thermobarrel, which I love, and noticed mine is different than the ones I see on line. I actually looked at a few in the shop and noticed the floor model was what I see on line, but the boxed versions appear "updated" with a new lid, false bottom, and...

    Thermobarrel and no sparge

Hey folks- I sold my ice cube mash tun and retired my round rubbermaid to purchase a 15 gallon Chapman Thermobarrel. My local store (shout out for Alternative Beverage in NC) gave me a great deal and this tun is worth the price. I wanted to try a full volume no sparge mash and my first brew...

Another Brew Kettle Thread..... which one?

Hey Folks- I'm a lurker but have been brewing about 20 years, mainly all grain since 2002 or so. I've been using converted keggles and Polarware Economy pots for years as I outfitted my simple brewery. I'm trying to upgrade, but not getting too crazy. I recently got my first pump (my back...

    Anchor steam- which NB hops?

Does anyone know if anchor steam uses german or us northern brewer hops? I've never used the American version and didn't realize they are different cultivars until some recent reading. If anyone can describe the difference between the two that would be helpful as well. Thanks!

    Wy2124 experience

Hello fellow brewers- I'm on my 4th Gen of wy2124 and pitched a healthy giant starter into a schwarzbier 4 days ago at 45, let it free rise to 52, and things are going great.....nice fermentation activity as planned and hoped for. Funny thing is there is no sulfur smell whatsoever in my...

    Starter from slurry question

Tough topic with possibly no perfect answer......so I'm trying to salvage some 6-week old wy2124 for a helles planned for tuesday. I used Mr. Malty to determine my viability was only 20% and I needed 830 or so ml to reach my lager pitch rate. I don't have that much, so need to make a starter...

    Good use for lme

Hey folks- I've been an all grain brewer for 20 years or so and recently received a gift of 3 kits containing a bunch of breiss gold lme. I used the first container for a series of starters, but I still have two 6 lb and one 3 lb container left. Thinking about supplimenting a bock, stout...

    Alpha amylase levels in grain

Hey Folks- I've searched the web and found a little bit of info, but still can't find an answer to how levels of alpha amylase in malted grains impact a mash in relation to mash temp. In other words, if one grain has a lower level of alpha amylase than another, would a higher mash temp be...

    Local maltsters

I've been experimenting with local malts lately and have been pretty darn impressed. I'm in nc and have read a thing or two about riverbend out of asheville. Just wrote a blurb on another thread about their heritage malts and a recent lager I made. It's like a dark vienna with plenty of...

    Who's hosting an Oktoberfest party?

......and what's on tap. We are having one this weekend. I have a Festbier, Vienna lager, a light Vienna (SRM light, still toasty and malty), and a Marzen. I used some new recipes this year taking advantage of a couple local malt producers, Riverbend and Epiphany. Hopefully folks will enjoy...

    HI from NC mountains

Hi there. I've been brewing since the late 1990s with several hundred brews under my belt using a simple all-grain system. Always trying to learn more and make better beer. Amazing how much things have changed in the brewing world. Thanks for all the great information
