i just brewed this and forgot to add the aroma hops. any suggestions as to what I should do? I have the 1/4 ounce cascade and another ounce or two of cascade lying around. dry hop? how much?
this is what I am saying. I am now fearful of a much too bitter beer. I didn't use a calculator as I thought AHS would provide me with a good recipe. Now I am worried. I guess I'll bottle this one and give it lots of time. I was planning on kegging it as I have two empty kegs, but if this...
I'm making a simcoe pale ale. Using pro mash I came up with 95.4 IBU. Hop schedule: 1.5 ounce simcoe 60 min (11.9%), .5 simcoe 15 min, 1 ounce cascade 5 min. This seems nuts to me. Am I right? Or am I brewing a really bitter IPA? It's an Austin Homebrew Supply recipe.

it is a pale ale with simcoe for bittering and flavor. cascade for aroma. 5th all grain batch. 1.5 ounce simcoe 60 min, .5 ounce simcoe 15 min, .5 ounce cascade 5 min, .5 flame out.
put my first hop addition in 10 minutes ago. going well now, after that little scare.
I bought a new digital thermometer today and was using it in my mash. I figured out it was not calibrated right about 15 minutes in. It was reading 160, then I doughed in and it went to 172. Then I freaked out and added cold water. Two different thermometer readings with another dig and a...
take another reading.
as for the 1.035, corrected for temp at 130 it is 1.048. if it was 140 it would be 1.051.
I don't see how it is possible to increase gravity without adding solids into the water. check your hydrometer and make sure it is working properly. Is this a 2.5 gallon batch or 3...
wow! is that how vigorously I should boil my wort? I always have a rolling boil, but that seems a bit more intense than my boils. I get 13-15% evporation rate with my boil and it is maybe half as intense as that boil.
I have no idea what to do with soba, but I am having the Rogue Morimoto Black Obi Soba Ale right now and I don't know what it is supposed to taste like, but there is some serious diacetyl flavors coming through. Anyone had this beer and had a similar experience?
I'll post a list of the...
Why don't you do 5 gal batches instead of 5.5. the 30 qt. will get it done, I used to do it before I got a new pot, just watch it(FWIW I use a propane burner). Your hop utilization will decrease if you do less that a full boil, remember to adjust if you decide to not go the full boil route...
Isn't brewing great?! I brewed a dozen or so batches a couple of years ago(traveled and gave it up), then got back into it 3 months ago. I am loving it 120 gallons and 3 months later. watch out for the bug though, soon you will be spending $$$ to save $$, it'll all come out in the wash (finally...
