    The three most important things...

This is great guys, thank so much. Question, when you guys say 'yeast health' what do you mean? Typically I store mine in the fridge before use. Give it a good couple of hours to come up to room temp before using. And I rehydrate it (using sterilised water/equip) before pitching. Anything else I...

    The three most important things...

Hey guys and gals, What follows here is a bit a of a plea for advice. I have been home brewing for about two years. In that time I've gone from extract, to partial to all grain (only recently). My set up is pretty basic: a couple of large stainless pots for mashing and boiling. And a 30L...

    Primary fermentation stopped, then restarted?

Thanks guys. Shall wait till it shuts down again and do another gravity reading. Appreciate it.

    Primary fermentation stopped, then restarted?

Hey guys (and gals), Question for the brains trust. Was fermenting a partial grain dopplebock. It seemed to ferment just fine. Gravity settled. I waited a few more days. Added finnings, waited 48 hours, then waited 48 more. Was thinking about bottling in the next few days when I was...

    Bottle infections

Funny you mention the drops. I've actually tried experimenting with them quite a bit. Different brands. Only using drops freshly opened, as opposed to ones left over from my last brew. Nothing there has changed anything very much. Your point about ditching caps seems to be one a few people have...

    Bottle infections

Yeah, It's got to the point that I'm now marking the affected bottles to see if they're repeat offenders. But you're probably right, I may as well just chuck them. And I do rinse bottles immediately after use. This really has got me stumped, hence my question here. No idea what else to try.

    Bottle infections

Process is as I was told when I first started 1. I use bottle wash detergent (in the concentrations specified) with hot water. Scrub out the bottle with a bottle brush (I do rinse out bottle after I've drank them with hot water so there should be reduced residue tobegin with). 2. Rinse...

    Bottle infections

I do let them sit. I would not typically drink a brew until about two months in bottle. That's when I've found they get to their best. It's the ones that fizz over all by themselves around the 7-12 day mark that are causing me headaches.

    Bottle infections

Hey guys, Really need help from the collective brains trust. I've been brewing for about a year. Simple set up. I've worked my way up to a partial brew recipe with added malt or DME etc, then into a 25L plastic tub for fermentation. After which I bottle in 750ml PETs and I use carb drops (two...

Houston, do I have a problem?

Attempted my first partial grain brew today. Got everything set. Had my walk through all prepped. The mash was fine, I think (2 kg of grain in about 8 litres of water). Plus the sparge water pot of about 5 litres. Wort was nice and sweet. Into the boil pot. And it's only then I discover my...

Easy Partial Mash Brewing (with pics)

This is awesome. I've completed four extract brews (I'm definitely a noob brewer) and wanted to know what the next step in learning to brew was. Partial seemed to be it, but the learning curve ramped way the hell up as, unlike the extract kits, there didn't seem to be a basic set of...

    Fermentation restarted?

    Thanks. Appreciate it.

    Fermentation restarted?

Okay. One last question for the collected brains trust on this issue. It would seem the off gassing explanation was right. I've be been following the gravity throughout and it's not changed even as the gas was being released. So, technically, I've had a steady gravity reading for about four days...

    Fermentation restarted?

Sorry but what does stuck fermentation mean? I've never even heard of it before.
