    Boiling water... Yup...

I moved to an outdoor burner because 1) it was taking too long to boil and 2) I was ruining my stove top. Doing the boil outside is so much better. It boils way faster, and you don't have to worry about making a total mess in your house (or smelling up the house (even though I enjoy the...

    Making the switch, equipment question!

You should definitely build your own mashtun... you can do it for really cheap. Check out this site: www.donosborn.com/homebrew/mashtun.htm This is what I used to build my own and it has worked great.

Brew Pal software in the iTunes App Store

Is there something wrong with the recipe section when adding a yeast? It keeps telling me to enter in a volume, even after I put a volume in. I'm unable to save the type of yeast I use because of this.

    Keggerator Question

You're fermenting an IPA at 56? Isn't that a little low? I'm still a noob, so this is more of a question for my own edification.

    Chilling Wort Faster

You can get a $15 water pump from Harbor Breeze, put it in a bucket with lots of ice and water then use this to pump cold water through an immersion chiller. Immersion chiller will cost you some money, but this is really the best way to chill in my opinion.

    Bottle Cleaning Question

I inherited about 32 16oz EZ-Cap Bottles from a friend who had them in his attic for probably 5 years. They had cobwebs and crap all over them. I rinsed all of them with warm water then ran them through the dish washer twice. I didn't use soap, just the steam setting in the dish washer...

What can be used as a Secondary?

You do not need to secondary your beer.

Rehydrating Dry Yeast and Residual Sticking to Container?

Oh I was going to ask why you used two packets of 05... but a Russian Imperial will force that.

    House Yeasts

Question and call for participation: When people refer to having a house yeast, does this mean they use a yeast strain then keep repitching the yeast from leftover slurry? Or does this just mean you only buy one type of yeast and use that almost exclusively? Now for the participation...

Airlock has no more bubbles after 2 days

Nothing to worry about. Bubbling is not necessarily a sign of fermentation or the lack thereof. Take a gravity reading after day 4 and see where you're at. Just be sure to sanitize everything you use to take the sample.

    My first airlock contamination!

Ian - you need a piece of vinyl tubing that will fit snugly in the hole at the top of the lid. I don't know the exact size unfortunately. I had to get two different size tubings b/c my Northern Brewer bucket has a slightly smaller hole than my other bucket. I recommend getting 1-2 ft worth at...

    My first airlock contamination!

The whole purpose of putting starsan in the airlock is to prevent contamination. You should be perfectly fine. Sounds like a great recipe! If you really love hops and want crazy awesome hop flavor, consider putting all of your late hop additions together at flameout and let them steep for...

    Smack Pack problem

Well, this was an ESB with an OG of 1.040. Didn't think I needed very many more yeast cells for that bad boy.

    Smack Pack problem

So yesterday I finished up my brew day, was merrily going about the final stages and when pouring the yeast from the Wyeast packet into the bucket I had a momentary lapse of intelligence and allowed the nutrient pack to fall into the bucket. I quickly dunked my hand in sanitizer, shook it off...
