I'm using the conicals from American home brewing purchased on eBay. I have 2 of them so far.
I used the Greenlee hole punch I had for the electrical box build of my eBrewery for the coil holes and a step bit for the thermowell.
Dave sent me some new gaskets. A couple of thick ones and a couple thin. I'm still not sure which to use, one, or tow or? If I put a thick one on the top lid and a thin one on the bottom, it holds pressure wonderfully. I almost wonder if you're just supposed to use one and put it around the lid...
I've had three plastic 15 gal conicals running for 2 years now. I've had all three filled numerous times with two of them fermenting ale temps and one cold crashing. The coldest I've ever gotten down to is about 30-32 in the fermenter but the system struggles. Hits 35 with no problem. The...
So I got a response back from the dood that I bought them from on ebay. He asked if I had the 'really thick one or the thin one'. I told him I had two fairly thin ones. Haven't gotten a response back yet. Sounds like there are different arrangements out there. I think I'd rather just have one...
I've gotten two of these conicals and haven't received an extra gasket with either. Now, maybe I'm just being dense, but it comes with a gasket on the lid and a gasket on the conical itself. I assumed you need to leave both on. Is that not the case?
And FWIW, I've already managed to rip one of...
I have one of these arriving Friday. I'm looking at punching holes in the top and silver soldering in a couple 1.5" SS couplings to connect the SS coils from one of my 3 plastic conicals.
Has anyone tried silver soldering with these kettles?
Am I correct in assuming these are 2mm thick?
Can you owners of the 1/2 barrel chronical give me the interior dimensions?
How tall is the round part and how tall is the cone?
How far from the top of the round part until the thermowell?
I need to see if my coils will fit in the upper part.
Thanks.
I'm not going with the FTSS as I have a full control system built already and SS coils in my plastic conicals. I like the extra head space in the domed top as well as the TC fitting in the center.
How thick are the domed lids? I'm thinking maybe I could punch a couple holes and silver solder...
I too am looking at moving to the SS 1/2 barrel fermenters, currently using plastic conicals.
I'm wondering how things went punching new holes in the cover for the tri-clover fitting went and if you still have a good seal for pressurized transfers. What parts did you use to get the seal or...
So even if I went to a higher BTU AC, it's probably not going make it any better since we're trying to push these things outside of the specs they were designed for. That all makes sense. My system can get my 15 gallon conicals (3 of them) down to about 34F which is good enough.
Thank you for...
Thanks for the response Shockerengr.
It isn't the coil inside the cooler that's freezing up. The components outside of the cooler in the AC itself are all covered with ice. I think the parts are the compressor and expansion valve. My return water to the cooler is set up so that it runs over the...
This thread may be dead but I'll give it a shot.
I've been using a 5K window aircon for the past 1.5 years for our 3 little 15 gallon plastic conicals with coils. It works great for regular ale temps. When I try to get the glycol down below 25F, the insides of the aircon get totally ice packed...
