All-grain homebrew equipment for sale. $600 for everything, individual pricing below. Hand built, goof quality equipment. If you built this now, it would cost over $1200. Crazy fermentation with WLP Whitbread II

Hi, So I've recently relocated to the Charlotte, NC area from PA and I finally got to do some brewing last Sunday. I made a dark British Mild with some leftover Maris Otter I had. Brew day was uneventful (a good thing) and I hit OG 1.040 (little better efficiency, I was shooting for around...

Handling mash temps and strike temps in arduino build

At times, building it on my own is a real PITA. However, it's been fun and educational overall. Satisfies my need to tinker. In the meantime, I still have my normal gravity feed propane and cooler rig!

Handling mash temps and strike temps in arduino build

Thanks for the tip. I have heard of the brewtroller, but I didn't know it was open source. That should help me figure out some of these stickier issues. :mug:

Handling mash temps and strike temps in arduino build

Let's walk through a use case. Assume a brew day with a single infusion mash and batch sparge (keep it simple first). My setup is going to be a three vessel e-HERMS system using converted kegs. So there would be a heating element in my HLT and my BK. There would be a pump connecting the...

Handling mash temps and strike temps in arduino build

So, I thought more about this...I don't really need the PID running to heat my strike water. I think I'm going to have another button to switch between manual mode and automatic mode. THis is probably a good idea anyway, since I don't need the PID for boiling, either. I will still have to...

Handling mash temps and strike temps in arduino build

Hi, I've been slowly chipping away at making a fully automated, electric brewery for about 6 months now. Up until now, I've been focusing on the sensing, display, and user interface components, mainly because my current house doesn't have 240V hookups in my little detached garage. Big news...

Holy Cow! Mixed Star San and Five-Star Line Cleaner!

I don't think so. I think the labelling and bottle size are both from Five-Star. I buy the 8oz star san squeeze bottle normally, but I've also purchased the smaller 4oz non-squeeze bottle to refill my squeeze. I'm assuming it's standard packaging. The LCC labelling is damn close. The print...

Holy Cow! Mixed Star San and Five-Star Line Cleaner!

Well, fortunately the reaction cooled down and stabilized. The end product was gel and water, more or less. Honestly though, the star san and line cleaner bottles look damn-near the same. I've really gotta be careful. Thanks!

Holy Cow! Mixed Star San and Five-Star Line Cleaner!

I did edit it, haha. I meant to type SODIUM phosphate and typed potassium, mostly because my kid is nagging me while I'm thinking. Either way, salts lol....just the wrong ones originally.

Holy Cow! Mixed Star San and Five-Star Line Cleaner!

So, I had to jog my chem brain. Active star san ingredient is Phosphoric Acid. Active LCC#1 ingredient is Sodium Hydroxide. This is just yielding water and salts, right? Acid-base titration...right?

Holy Cow! Mixed Star San and Five-Star Line Cleaner!

Yeah. I let it vent then sealed up the container. I guess my question is, what now? Just leave it sealed up and dispose of it? I'm trying to be environmentally mindful. Also, see you're in NZ, so not sure if you can answer the second part of my question (I'm in PA, USA).

Holy Cow! Mixed Star San and Five-Star Line Cleaner!

Woah. Cautionary tale. I was getting ready to bottle my brown ale. I had a bottling bucket full of star san, and noticed it was getting a bit murky. So, I decided to dump it and pour fresh. My star san dispensing container was getting empty, so I took one of those mini refill bottles of...

Seeking recommendations - best hot liquid solenoid valve

I checked out some of the available high-temp options. Will need to do more research. Most of the stuff I found for under $100/valve looked to be cheap Chinese ****. Not that I expect to source all American, but man, some of the crap I've bought lately from China has been Gawdawful.:D
