    Exploring "no chill" brewing

Did you notice a chill haze in the beer when you did it this way? Did you fine with gelatin or anything?

    Exploring "no chill" brewing

I've done several batches no chill (even using the container above that has been "disavowed" and have produced gold medal milds, bitters, stouts and yep, mostly non-hoppy stuff. I use the rule of thumb of "push it forward 15 mins" on the hop schedule. 60 = 45, anything after 15 goes in the...

Crystal 60 Percentage of the Grist

I backed all my Crystal malts down to 20/40 in my IPAs because I like a pale, west coast profile so I agree with the changes in the previous selection. For Crystal Malts of 60L+, you can steep them after the MASH to keep the color but lower the flavor impact. This technique just requires a...

Oak aging directly in the primary

If you want a good bit of oak flavor, I'd leave it on there more than 5-6 day (and I would say to use secondary fermentation.) I don't think going to secondary raises your risk of oxidation if you do it correctly. Matt

    Gruit Herbs

Best and first stop would be GruitAle.com for recipes and bits to get ready for GruitDay.com on 1 February. Some great links would be this Herb and Recipe List: http://beermumbo.com/gruit-ale/ Gruit history: http://imbibemagazine.com/Gruits WSJ Review on some fantastic gruits and...

    Autumn Seasonal Beer Punkin' Ale

I mis-posted this in a thread for gluten free beers so....oops. Anyway, question is the same. How can I modify this wheat batch. I have two questions on the back of this. I'm trying to make a Harvest Wheat due to well, I got a great deal on some still fresh summer wheat all grain components...

    Pumpkin Bourbon Dubbel

I agree on the Cloves. Might be a translation error there (I have the book, not looking at it now though ((PS, great book for ideas and small batch creativity!)) good buy.) as 2 spoons of whole clove is nice, 2 spoons of powdered clove would numb the mouth of a horse. I have two questions on...

Can I make beer with this?

So, this is a craigslist listing I was inspired to look for when a local brewpub said they got their start brewing large batches with a ridiculously large industrial coffee brewer bought off Craigslist that they used to brew with. I've yet to figure all the parts yet, but I'm assuming you: --...
