I am starting to wonder if it’s just floating hop debris. Just pored a second pint and there seems to be less of the drying astringency.
Either that or my palate is already used to it.
I just moved so I threw in brand new keg lines. I didn’t intend to mash out at 180. My mash dipped to 148, I turned my flame back on, and stepped away for maybe 5-10 minutes. It was up to 178 when I came back so I was like “I guess I am done mashing” lol.
I didn’t measure my PH but used...
I don’t have a PH meter, but given distilled water and mineral additions the water calc has an expected 5.2 mash ph.
It has both. There is hop bitterness which doesn’t seem out of line with the ibu’s but there is definitely some astringency. No, I must have lost them in the move. Given it...

2. If you chill and carbonate your beer, can you then let it...
When I moved it to secondary it tasted incredibly bitter(I have had beers that had similar perceived bitterness though), I am thinking that secondary + bottle conditioning + carbonation will smooth it out a little bit(hopefully). It had really great (i mean amazing) hop aroma, but the bitterness...
I used pellet hops and I would guess that I lost about a liter of wort to the hops. I didn't used a hop spider or hop bag so I wasn't able to drain all the wort. Can a nylon grain bag double as a hop bag or should I find something with smaller holes?
Hello everybody, my first post to the forums!
I wanted to ask some more experienced brewers about a some problems and potential solutions for my second brew.

On brew day, when I was...
