Going from gas RIMS to elec. BIAB. Capturing cold break?

I was under the impression that a beer will NOT be as clear unless you capture the cold break. Especially in lighter beers, pilseners and lagers. I have never worried about it in the past or even at the present. I am putting together a new system and just want to dot my "I"s and cross my "T"s is...

Going from gas RIMS to elec. BIAB. Capturing cold break?

I am getting rid of my current natural gas fired RIMS system and going with an electric BIAB system. My plan is to outfit my kettle (I am a fabricator and pretty handy with a TIG welder) with a pick up tube as well as a whirlpool tube. The idea is to have the whirlpool tube pointed toward the...

    Counterflow vs plate chiller efficiency?

I think I found the answer to my question. I went to the Duda Diesel website, they have a chart showing the efficiency of each of their chiller models. I found the one I want. Its a 60 plate chiller, only uses 16 gallons of water to cool 10 gallons of wort and the water coming out is nearly 155...

    Counterflow vs plate chiller efficiency?

I have done a lot of searching on this subject, not only here, but throughout the web as well about which chiller is better, counterflow vs plate chiller. I understand the plate chiller requires a few extra steps to cleaning it properly. That does not concern me. I want the one that uses the...

    question about carbonating

I read the sticky about force carbonating or burst carbonating before posting. Poor planning? Yes. I kegged 10 gallons last night, (2) 5-gallon kegs. I only have one CO2 bottle with one outlet. I would like to serve it at my christmas party tomorrow night....again, poor planning. If I put 30 psi...

brew sculptures single tier or 3 tier?

As far as I'm concerned, if I spend the money to build a 3 tier system, eventually, I will upgrade to a single tier. I would be further ahead to spend an extra couple bucks now than to spend the money later on a whole new sculpture. Thanks for all the info. I do like that 2 tier setup also but...

brew sculptures single tier or 3 tier?

Thanks. All are good points, most of which I was already keeping in mind. I have installed city water and natural gas already in my garage. I plan on plumbing my brew structure so I won't have to transfer water manually or even move a hose from kettle to kettle. Just open the valve to the kettle...

brew sculptures single tier or 3 tier?

What are some pros and cons of each style? I'm graduating from extract brewing to all grain and, as a metal fabricator, I'm going to build a brew sculpture. My initial thought was to go with a single tier. To me it seems like it would be easier to operate having everything at countertop level...

First Recipe - Honey Wheat Partial Mash

Personally I think you're on target with the White Labs and straight honey. Though I really can't steer you away from the honey malt either since I've never used it myself. Try it both ways then decide which one you like better.

First Recipe - Honey Wheat Partial Mash

Ok, since no one else chimed in I throw my opinion in there. This is by no means a suggestion, just my opinion. I think the only thing I would change is I would add the Citra hops closer to the end of the boil maybe 2-5 minutes instead of 15. Good luck with it and let us know how it turns out.

    Help with HBT abbreviations!

I see, so why aren't these stickies, glossaries, and dictionaries included on the mobile app? I looked all over before posting and couldn't find anything but forums and topics....I guess I need to back up 10 years and sit down at an actual computer.

    Help with HBT abbreviations!

I am a novice homebrewer and I find a lot of information on this forum helpful.....if I can understand it. These guys abbreviate alot. Most of the abbreviations used on this forum I've seen before or I can figure them out given their use in the sentence. Some of them on the otherhand I have no...

letting the water breathe before brewing???

Got it! Its chlorine and the running annual average is 1 ppm. All the brewing I've done to this point has been extract brewing. I picked up some equipment to start all-grain and I'm starting to pay more attention to the details. I guess its just part of the evolving procedure. Started with a...

Ahhh! So there is some truth to it. Thanks for the tips. I just got my water quality report the other day, I'll check it out.
