    Keezer Evolution

Hey all. Thought I'd post how my Keezer has evolved as my brewing expanded. Started with a 3 spot perlick and expanded to a 5 with glass rinser. Added Nitro in the middle position. GE 7.1 accommodates 3 kegs on the floor 2 on hump with gas outboard. When I expanded the trick was finding...

Anyone use a drain pump for their wet bar?

I'm very happy with the Liberty 405 commercial drain pump. 2" drain and waste and vent. Handles temps up to 180 degrees which is needed for wort chilling. https://www.libertypumps.com/Data/SalesLiterature/405web.pdf It's a Beast.

SS Brewtech w/ FTSS trub dump

Minnehopolis, I open the dump valve two times during fermentation. I do not remove my 1inch I.D. Blow off tube as the starsan only siphons up its length about 5 to 10 inches. First dump is after vigorous fermentation starts, approximately 24 hrs. This is the trub dump. Second is right...

    HERMs coil question

Thanks Steve! bbohanon, Good suggestion on recirculating before adding the grain. I brewed yesterday and added the grain then recirculated while HLT came back up to temp. It went pretty quick but prefer your suggestion. Will try next time. I also increased my strike temp to 165 for the...

    HERMs coil question

Like gameface said, HLT ramp up speed will likely dictate this. Use stainless brewing's table below to determine if you'll have adequate water volume above your coil output to more than handle normal mash strike volumes. This will prevent the issue I have of needing to add water to the HLT...

    HERMs coil question

If the coil exits the HLT too high, the top of it will be exposed after you transfer your strike water to the mash. I have to add water back to my HLT and heat before recirculating the mash. This adds time to the brew day. Yes, a larger diameter would have helped but depending on the...

    HERMs coil question

I agree that 25ft in most applications is probably the better fit. Learn from my mistake. I come from the "more is better" school and ended up with my herms coil output too high on the HLT. Used stainless brewing's 50ft, 1/2 inch, 10" diameter coil with two bends. Stainless brewing does...

Show me your diy vent hood.

Thanks Rudy! I appreciate your utilitarian approach. I do the same often. Works no fuss.

Show me your diy vent hood.

Here's another approach. A modular setup through an open basement window. I made it out of wood using a through wall exhaust fan mounted on a detachable frame . The exhaust fan has 3 speeds with the top speed greater than 2000 cfm. No issues with condensate even when the outside air is below...

    Johnson Controls A419 Settings

Jesse, I'm no expert as I always have to refer to the instructions each time I change from heating to cooling modes. Heating cut-in: jumper 1 installed, jumper 2 removed for cut-in (circuit energized at cut-in). Say you want to maintain 68 degree fermentation temp in a cold ambient...

    Buy a Fermentation Chamber?

I hear you. I just tell her this stuff is 1/2 the actual price. However, after 30 years she has adjusted by multiplying my prices by 3. I obsess on BPM (bubbles per minute) measurements for my brew log. I watch the blowoff tube bubbles. Here's a low tech less expensive approach I still...

    Buy a Fermentation Chamber?

You can find these on eBay for less than $500. True GDM 12. Got mine for less than $150. The compressor and chiller fan have separate plugs. Run the compressor off a johnson control in cooling mode and plug the fridge into the wall outlet. I snake the probe through the door seal and into...
