First ever cider, not sure what's next?

Good call Brac, I totally missed that and that it’s in a gallon carboy, yes that will definitely slow the process down.

First ever cider, not sure what's next?

Wow lots of questions! So first thing is to get a hydrometer so you can test the specific gravity of your must, since apple juice has a mostly simple sugars your looking for a reading below 1.000 and then check it a couple more times after and when your readings don’t change it’s done. If your...

    New to kegging

Just add the solution like you are bottling to the bottom of the keg and rack your beer over, your going to pressurize your keg still to seat the lid to make sure it seals and burp out the oxygen and then let it sit for a couple of weeks to carbonate.

Is this a rhizome I can cut and replant?

Pretty sure you can, I had a branch brake off last year and it took root so I’d definitely try it.

Not sure if I should start brewing again or not

I would keep an eye out at Northern Brewer for sales, they regularly have extras kits on sale. Or if your driving to a store make that trip count and make as big a purchase you can get to make that trip worth it.

    Adventures in Homebrewing (aka Homebrewing.org)

I was always happy with them they have been my go to for at least 5 years now, it would be nice if they released some sort of statement as to what happened and how they are handling things now and may what we can expect going forward. Clearly whatever happened happened fast and possibly...

    Buying Beer As A Homebrewer

For years I only drank what I brewed but after several moves and not brewing I had to buy beer. Now that I’m getting back to brewing my goal is to get back to just drinking what I brew but until I have a solid pipeline I’m going to have to buy, not as much now.

What did you learn this week?

Holy Necro post Batman! Those are all good things to learn, what grains will do what things and yes trying to keep several orders organized so you know what you actually ordered.

    Flaked rice v minute rice

I just use regular rice, cook it normally and then add more water and let it sit over night. By adding more water it will absorb that water and not your mash water, which will cause you to have less volume which at the end of the boil can lead to less wort. Just did a rice lager a couple of...

    Philly Sour Yeast

Ok so you ended up having it contaminated, sorry, dumping that much beer is never easy, I had a mold issue years ago and had quite a few dumpers from that. I’m gonna let this sit another week and taste it again. Thanks

    Philly Sour Yeast

Yes this, I just did a batch and it has a metallic taste and aroma and I’m hoping it’s not a dumper, did yours ever settle out?

    bottle haze: causes and cleaning

I’ve had this happen when using oxy and hard water, especially if your SOAKING them. I would try using either spring or even better distilled water. If you rinse after pouring then you can just use powdered dish washer detergent to wash them and not use oxy.
