Specialty IPA: Black IPA None More Black IPA (Cascadian Dark Ale)

This is the first recipe on this forum I've tried to replicate. I had a disaster of a brew day. Stuck CFC and I was sucking on tubes between cursing my arse off. Ended up calling in sick to work and sticking the wort in the tub. Despite that, thing is it turned out really pretty good due to...

    American IPA Fresh Squeezed IPA

Looks great! How did you dry hop? Just drop them in the carboy or do you have a way of suspending them in the beer?

Double IPA Cimmerian Ale IIPA (1st Place Chicago Cup)

Great so to win a competition in this style you have to spend $75 on hops for a 5 gal. batch. That's encouraging. But I do have a question, you noted that one should ferment for ten days and then go to secondary just when yeast starts to drop. Could you clarify this? Also, how long did you...

    Infection Elimination

That must be really frustrating. Have you been dry hopping either of these beers? If so, what do you use, if anything, to contain the hops?

    Wet Hopping Questions

We are harvesting some fresh cascade hops. I'm very excited to use them and already boiled with some. I'm wondering how much freshies need to be used to get the right amount of bitterness and aroma. Also, any advice on dry hopping with fresh hops? Quantities? Is there more chance for...

    Sanitizing a corny keg

In response to these videos: That seems like cleaning with this method uses more gas than dispensing beer would. Is there a way to do this and be more efficient with gas?

Just starting out, equipment advice needed

I started out similarly to you. I knew I would upgrade to an all-grain setup which happened recently so I would consider investing in some sort of mash tun. I use a converted keg which works great and like you said, there is no plastic. I also use 2 burners, one for the mash (getting water/tun...

    American IPA Pliny Light

@frod1963 I brewed this again today. Made a couple adjustments to the hopping from the first time I brewed it because I didn't have enough hop bags. I used an IBU calculator for the first time and the final result was 142! Does that seem about right to you or is it maybe a bit much? I've got...

    I hate Heady Topper

Ha. I love warm kool-aid. Drink my kool-aid! Hill Farmstead uses well water, and apparently the minerals in the area make it very nice for brewing. Pretty sure you cannot replicate a pure water source with additives. Ask the Germans.

    American IPA Pliny Light

I brewed this a month or so ago, and it is the best beer I've ever brewed. Thanks for posting the recipe. I didn't have Galaxy or Chinook, so I switched them out for Armarillo and Mosaic which I had on hand whole leaf, the columbus was pellets, and the result was absolutely delicious. I'm going...

    I hate Heady Topper

I can get Heady Topper whenever I want as I'm in VT all the time and while it's good I think it's highly over rated. Sort of a novelty. Not all that well balanced. The high ABV is necessary as it is super hoppy. Lots of pine AND citrus. If you pour it in a glass it's quite cloudy (inconsistently...

    Keg Force Carbing Methods Illustrated

Question about naturally carbing kegs here: I'm putting beer in my first keg this week and I plan on using priming sugar because- I don't mind a little extra sediment, like the carbonation of the naturally carbed beers more, and anticipate getting co2 to be a pain in the a$$. My concern is...

I'm in Boston by the way, but go up north to Vt. often.

North Carolina WTT - Keggle for 10-15 gal brew Kettle

Hi, I just put the exact same fittings (Brewhardware.com) on a 9 gal. SS kettle (Bayou Classic). It's a great kettle and even better with all the fixings. I'd love to upgrade as I also just built an MLT out of a keggle. email me if your interested in trading, [email protected]

Best false bottom for mashing in a keggle?

Bobby (brewhardware) has been an inspiration for me from the beginning, so when it was time to move to AG setup and I converted a keg, I bought all my hardware (valves, thermometer, sight-glass and false bottom) from him. 15+ in. false bottoms are expensive and I only know of 2 places to get...
