i did that once .... after i finished bottling my beer i still had a lot of yeast / trub on the bottom ... so i sipnoned it out into another bottle, capped it, stuck it in the fridge at 35 degree's
i was able to use it a month later with zero problems
chances are that the liquid yeast bought from your LHBS is of higher quality than the dry yeast pack in your beer kit, i would also trust it to be more active as well.
here is what i did last time i had a liquid yeast from my LHBS
1. night before i made a mini-wort (1 quart water - 1 cup...
i did a chocolate stout last year .. very high alcohol content
took it 9 months to fully smooth out
my first was a pale ale --- took it 6 weeks
my 2nd was an amber ale -- that one took 3 months
... i also did my aging in a closet in my garage ... temperatures ranged from 65 degree's to 85...
sorry ... maybe i said it wrong ... previously i would use the 6 qt for steeping grains
the one i boil my wort in is 60 quart (crawfish boiler)
i'll be using 1.25 gallons of water per pound of grain
i should probably anticipate a bad crush and push for a 75 minute soak at 154-ish
thanks...
I have never done All Grain before, for the partials i have done, I would heat my water up in a 6-quart stock pot on the stove, and steep 3 pounds of grain at a time. I have been reading up on AG as much as I can.
recipe:
6.0 lbs Maris-Otter
1.5 lbs Munich Malt (20L)
1.5 lbs Flaked...
beware of the specialty grains
they smell great, look great, and leave you wanting to make sure that greatness is imprinted on your beer's flavor
too much of a good thing will kill a beer :)
looks like you have an awesome recipe though ... trial and error is the best way :)
i am so glad you guys are discussing this
was getting ready to do my first all grain recipe and was trying to figure out how to do it without a mash/lauter tun (since i don't have one)
nice to see you again :) -- this will be my first attempt at an all-grain batch
been trying to figure out how to get the thick body like they have in a guinness and put it in a red ....
dropped 1/2 pound of munich - dropped 1/2 pound cara-pils - dropped all the british chocolate -...
right on ... i have a plan now --- now time to improvize original plan
6.0 lbs Maris-Otter
2.0 lbs Cara-Pils
1.0 lbs British Chocolate
2.0 lbs Flaked Barley
2 oz Fuggles
2 oz EKG
Irish Ale Yeast
O.G. estimate 1.056
F.G. estimate 1.015 (was hoping for a little bit "thicker")
