Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

I just did a fresh install of Raspbian Stretch + Fermentrack on a RPi3 using the NOOBS image. Controlling a 3 chamber, serial-connected arduino setup. No problems apart from the error page I mentioned encountering a few posts back. The error page only popped up when changing settings, but the...

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

It definitely worked fine on Jessie, I had it running on that until the latest crash. IIRC, the issues came up since Debian Strectch updated to php7, but all the old brewpi instructions call for php5. When I switched the commands to install php7, it didn't pull in some dependencies that brewpi...

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

I gotta say, installing Fermentrack is waaaaaaaaaay easier than the manual brewpi-www install I've done the last few times. I have three arduinos on one pi and have had to manually reinstall a couple times due to sd card corruption (yay for losing backups...). The last time I ran into a bunch of...

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

Now that's what I call service, you had a new build up before I'd even gotten back to this after dinner! All up and running now, thanks for the quick fix. Ahh I've worked with Arduinos enough that I should've known that, thanks for the info.

Native ESP8266 BrewPi Firmware - WiFi BrewPi, no Arduino needed!

So I'm trying to convert my brewpi-www setup to use fermentrack but I'm getting this error when I go to add my arduino: I'm not actually able to choose anything on board type, it's filled in when I get to this page. On the previous page (Serial Controller Auto-detection, Step 3 - Identify...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

In case some aren't aware, 5 Star Chemical PBW is NOT the same as National Chemical BLC. PBW is a non-caustic cleaner, while BLC is a caustic cleaner. PBW is mostly silicates, phosphates, and surfactants according to the SDS sheet and is an oxygen-generating cleaner according to people on the...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

Beer line cleaner is not a sanitizer, it's a cleaner, there is a difference. One could argue you're being less safe since you could be harbouring microorganisms in your lines! I'm being a bit facetious, there shouldn't be anything growing in your lines that isn't in your beer unless you're...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

Running starsan through the taps is fine, never caused any issues for me. I don't always do it but if I'm going to leave a line empty for a while I'll cycle starsan through for 15 min then drain it. Just don't leave the starsan solution sitting in the lines for an extended period - this could be...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

So you had the jar sitting directly on the bottom of the pot? That kind of defeats the purpose of using the double boiler, since the bottom of the pot can be much hotter than the water above when heating. As you suggested, the jar probably cracked because the bottom overheated relative to the...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

Yep, that's pretty soft water. I think a pH meter should be accurate on carbonated water. Might as well try it, I don't see how it could hurt. I doubt the specs are wrong, 303 stainless shanks are pretty rare from what I've seen.

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

Just because it's city water doesn't mean it has any buffering capacity. You'd need to check how much carbonates or other minerals that contribute to 'hardness' of the water, this I what gives it buffering capacity. I'm guessing your water is not very hard, so carbonating it would make it fairly...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

Huh, I didn't realize that was where you found that PDF. You'd think they would just link the one page of that PDF that actually provides growler filling instructions. Anyways, I feel like this only reinforces my point that their marketing department is just reusing old material – the...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

Fair enough, I didn't dig into their old literature. I'm guessing the marketing department just copied the old press release from the 630SS and added bits about flow control, without actually asking anyone in engineering/manufacturing about materials changes. Their specifications are correct on...

Examining possible solutions to issue of sulfur smell from Perlick 650ss faucets

Perlick confirmed that certain components within the taps are 303, though not which ones specifically. But I think we pretty confidently determined which ones are 303, so I don't know if there's any benefit of doing a chemical analysis. As far as I can tell they are not advertised as full 304...

HOWTO - Make a BrewPi Fermentation Controller For Cheap

I'm in the process of rebuilding my brewpi setup and had some similar issues getting a new chinese arduino working on my new rpi3. FWIW, this was all done on Jessie but should work the same on Wheezy. Try entering the following commands. The first line navigates to the appropriate directory and...
