    Help Identify Style

Hey all, I'm kind of at a loss for style for this beer that I made. It's really great and I want to enter it in competition. The recipe/ingredients are as follows... IBU's 77.96 (R) SRM 8.4 OG 1.065 FG 1.020 15.5lbs Pale Malt .75lbs Honey Malt 1oz Mosaic 60min 1oz Mosaic...

    Trust my refractometer?

I was taking chilled wort going into the fermentor, in a small shot glass and using that as my sample, testing immediately.

    Trust my refractometer?

Well, I will do a test tonight. I will grab a new hydrometer on the way home from work and test it against the refractometer. I have never dropped it, but it was purchased online and who knows how it was handled before. I get funky readings from it all the time.

    Trust my refractometer?

So I broke my hyrometer durring my brew session today, and my refractometer is giving me a OG of 1.073 or 17.8 brix but I was expecting around 1.065OG or 16Brix when all was said and done. I was taking measurements of my wort pre-boil and all were on track, last reading from both hyrometer and...

    Triple Fermentation super low FG

The grain bill was very straight. 14lb belg pils, 4oz aromatic malt, 3oz Belg Carmel Pils. 2.5LB's of sugar were added to the beer three days after fermentation started. OG was 1.081. Just was shocked to see 1.001 as the FG.

    Triple Fermentation super low FG

So made a triple with the Wyeast 3789 Trappest Blend and the FG is 1.001. It tastes fine, though high alcohol, with a slight sourness, but I am thinking I should expect that from the Bret in the 3789. Any thoughts?

Cider - Three days after pitching, cider smells sulfur like and rotten

I added two different types of yeast nutrient to all the batches except the wild yeast batch. Both the Wyeast nutrient as well as some JD Carlson Yeast Nutrient.

Cider - Three days after pitching, cider smells sulfur like and rotten

This last weekend I purchased five 5 gallon buckets of un-pasturized cider from a local orchard. Three are going great. Two are smelling like sulfur and/or rotten cider. They had WLP540 Abbey IV and White Labs WLP028 Edinburgh Ale pitched as well as Wildflower Honey from Northern Brewer.There...

Yet another - my beer seems to have stopped fermenting after a couple of days...

Thanks everyone! If nothing else, I can say I learned something today.

Yet another - my beer seems to have stopped fermenting after a couple of days...

So measure with a refractometer when it's wort and the the hyrdometer when it's done fermenting?

Yet another - my beer seems to have stopped fermenting after a couple of days...

Well, that might just be it! My hydrometer reading says 1.014. Can someone explain why such a great difference in the readings?

Yet another - my beer seems to have stopped fermenting after a couple of days...

Do you mean adjust my refractometer for the the proper temp at reading? Yes.

Yet another - my beer seems to have stopped fermenting after a couple of days...

Thanks for your prompt responses. I am using a Blichmann Boilermaker kettle with a brewmometer. I have not gone back and re-calibrated it since I got the pot, but it seems spot on. I've checked it with my other lab thermometer and my cooking candy thermometer, and the are all within 1 degree of...
