British Brown Ale Nut Brown AG

Nothing looks particularly wrong with it that I can see from the picture. Did you take a gravity reading? P.S. Just brewed this tonight. Stuck to the original recipe 100%. I came out a little under the predicted gravity but nothing major. Maybe I will remember to post how it turned out...

Blonde Ale Centennial Blonde (Simple 4% All Grain, 5 & 10 Gall)

Just wanted to say I think this recipe is awesome. I brewed it following the directions exactly. I ended up needing the fermentor before there was room in my kegs so I racked this and let it sit for about 3-4 weeks before kegging. It tastes excellent, very nice and clean, and at this price...

    Yeast Starter smells like olives

I made a starter for my latest IPA using washed US-05 yeast from a previous batch. I noticed the olive smell, dumped the yeast in anyway, then realized that perhaps I had made a mistake, which lead me to this post. After dreading some kind of infection for two weeks I'm pleased to report that...

    Schwarzbier Glibbidy Schwarzbier

Brewed this today. I hit the 1.052 target spot on despite forgetting it's a 90 minute boil and doing the standard 60. Probably not a big deal but only time will tell. I'll do my best to remember to post here when it's drinkable! Cheers!

German Pils Cat's **** "Bitburger" - Premium Pilsner

It turns out all the gunk in the beer was not a bad omen. I tried a sample today after one day on gas and it's FANTASTIC. I love it when a beer is this good before it's even carbed. Going to pitch a Schwarzbier on top of this yeast and see how it turns out. I will definitely be making this...

German Pils Cat's **** "Bitburger" - Premium Pilsner

Maybe someone else has answered you, I haven't read the whole thread yet, but I brewed this today and had the same experience: lots of clumpy protein-looking-stuff floating around, some of it collecting into goopy balls. Pretty gross looking so I just siphoned around it for the most part and...

Saison Voltairine (Saison, Gold medal 2013 VA Beer Blitz)

I find this 101f temperature fermentation fascinating. Every Saison I've tried has fallen really flat so I may have to try for redemption with this recipe.

CASK Beer Blitz @ Hampton, VA

Maybe I could up my game if there is a good homebrew club in nova? I see Alexandria and Woodbridge posters on this page of the thread. I'm in falls church near Annandale. Any suggestions?

CASK Beer Blitz @ Hampton, VA

Nice job! No medal for my Belgian Strong Dark but I'm looking forward to some truly objective criticism when the score sheets arrive.

CASK Beer Blitz @ Hampton, VA

I entered my first competition beer, a Belgian strong dark I make as a Christmas present to my friends each year. If it places i will get to modify the label, so I've been refreshing their homepage all morning! ;)

    Founder's Double Trouble Clone

Ok, I have done a head to head taste test! Overall I think Double Dragon is superior to bottled Double Trouble, and it's a tie for kegged Double Trouble. I feel like I detect some kind of staling in the bottles. There's not bottle date, but the bottles I got were at least two months old...

    Double IPA Mike's Double Dragon

And for those of you that like to print labels for your bottles or kegs, here is the official label! The booziness I talked about died down a bit after the first few weeks and the beer really began to shine recently. At a local tasting it was the standout favorite which I was very pleased...

    Founder's Double Trouble Clone

It tastes more like Double Trouble on tap than the bottled ones I had. The one I had on tap was 2 months ago, the bottles about 3 weeks ago. The one on tap was superior in every way. I was going to save one bottle but they seemed a bit old, so I thought "I'll just get some fresh ones"...

    Double IPA Mike's Double Dragon

I've updated the recipe with a photo of the finished product. I'm going to make some slight revisions in the future to lower the presence of alcohol, namely: 24 oz corn sugar (instead of 32oz) 12 oz Munich (instead of 8oz) 4 oz Crystal 60 (instead of 4oz Crystal 40) for a touch more color...
