Thank you for the replies everyone! I will increase my pitch amount in future higher gravity beer batches. In regards to aeration I generally just shake the carboys for about ten minutes. I haven't invested in an O2 tank to do that with, but would this be a worthwhile investment?

So recently I have had my last few batches of beer experience incomplete fermentations. First I will quickly discuss my last barley wine and then I want to discuss the beer I am currently brewing.
So I just bottled a 5 gallon barely wine that started 1.102 and finished at 1.038...
I decided to brew a hefeweizen last night for the ladies and it's summer time. When I had finished brewing the I racked the wort into the carboy and gave it a good shaking then took a gravity reading.
It came out to a solid 1.052. The problem is that the color seems way too dark in the carboy...
Thanks for the quick replies everyone, so if I did want to try making a double I should up the amount of malts I use to get a higher OG? I used 6.6 lbs of lme, 1 lb of dme, and 1 lb of maltodextros.
So I brewed my second IPA yesterday and ended with a OG of 1.062. So I have two questions about my brew that Im unsure of.
