    Power-like white film on cider

Thanks to all that responded. So, here's my plan: Keg it and hit it with camden and potasium sorbate for a week, then backsweeten it and force-carbonate it on CO2 in the keg cooler. The keg should be empty within a month or so. Are there any flaws in my plan?

    Power-like white film on cider

I started a batch of cider a couple of months ago. It was unpasteurized cider from the cider mill. I added yeast nutrient and pectic enzyme and pitched it with Fermentis SafCider yeast. I got way too busy with work and neglected it. It was never racked to the secondary and as you can see in the...

Killing yeast in keg? CO2 or not?

I'll do that. Thanks for the info.

Killing yeast in keg? CO2 or not?

While ageing my cider in a carboy, I saw a very thin transparent white film on top of the cider. It broke apart & sank at the slightest disturbance. Fearing the beginning of a lacto-infection, I drew a sample & tasted it. It tasted fine & I haven't died yet, so I assume that it is OK. After...

    Cloudy/muddy beer from keg

I'm kinda a noob when it comes to all grain brewing. This was my 4th all grain batch and the previous batches did not have clarity issues. As far as anything unusual happening during the mash: everything seemed to go the same as it always does, but if there were a "hiccup" I probably wouldn't...

    Cloudy/muddy beer from keg

The only off-flavor that I can taste is the "muddy" or "yeasty" taste that I normally get on the first draw of a fresh keg. I think that I may be able to make the meeting next week. Do you still meet @ Cranker's?

    Cloudy/muddy beer from keg

I was wondering what I did wrong here. I did an All-grain clone of Newcastle Brown Ale using Nottingham yeast. Also used Irish Moss in the last 15 minutes. I reached a F.G. of 1.010 & let it sit for another week prior to kegging. While racking to the keg, I was careful not to disturb the...

    short lived keezers?

Thanks for the info. I was away from home for 5 days, so it was ignored for this time. When I got home, the temp was back down to normal, the compressor had shut off & the ice layer was very soft & mostly gone. Now I have a very thin (see-thru) layer of frost when the compressor is running...

    Spent grain as deer attractant?

If I dump my spent grains in the woods during the winter months, the deer will make short work of it. Any other time, they just ignore it.

    short lived keezers?

I'm sure that I don't have a perfect seal on my lid since I had to add a wooden collar to hold the faucets. I have always gotten a thin layer of frost near the top rim, which would melt when the compressor would shut off. I wouldn't think that the frost build-up would affect the ability to...

    short lived keezers?

The compressor delay is set @ the factory default, which I believe is 2.5 minutes. But I guess the delay setting is pointless since the compressor is running continuously.

    short lived keezers?

I am on my second keezer in 2 years:(. The first one, I chalked up to being an old freezer that had been sitting outside for quite a while before it was given to me. The second one was my main chest freezer in my basement before I got a bigger one. I am using a EBay temperature controller...

    Possible infection?

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I've got nothing to loose at this point.

    Possible infection?

I think that I have the same thing going on with my current batch. There was a white, "powdery looking" film on top. This film breaks apart very easily. There is an "off smell" to it, but I'm not sure how to describe it (it is not a sulfur or vinegar smell but more of a sour smell). I took a...

    "vintage" cappers

I use one that is like this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/Antique-Vintage-BOTTLE-CAPPER-CORKER-Made-in-USA-RED-/111296497302?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19e9c9c696#ht_667wt_1001 It works well as long as I have a "spacer block" under the bottle to get it to the proper height. The only issue is...
