Thanks for all the input. I think for this time, I'll keep the beer in the fridge until I have time to bottle it, which hopefully will be this weekend, and then I'll keep it in room temp until carb is right. If it tastes good then I'll drink it, otherwise I'll lager it.
Next time I brew a lager...
Yes, I aerated using a large (50 cm) balloon whisk.
I have batch primed my previous batches, but this time I'll try bottle priming using Mangrove Jack's carbonation drops, in order to get a more homogeneous carbonation.
Great!
I forgot to check the age on the package, unfortunately. However, I...
I'm brewing my first lager, a Bamberg style rauchbier with OG 1.053 and FG 1.015 using Wyeast 2308. I didn't have time to make a starter and I pitched one package of yeast (for 10 liters) at 15C (59F), and decreased the temperature to 11C (51.8F) where I left it. The fermentation didn't take off...
The fermentation has now gone on for about 19 hours. It struck me that I made one mistake though, and that was not cooling the wort enough. I pitched the yeast at about 18 degrees C (64.4F) and then set the temp setpoint to 16 degrees (60.8F) which it reached after about 14 hours. I have read...
Thanks for all the replies!
I am now in the middle of mashing and have poured up a Fuller's London Pride to celebrate that there hasn't been any accidents yet.
I tried my 2 roller grinder for the first time, and set it to 0,4 mm (0.016 ") based on what I read here on the forums regarding grist...
I don't know if this is the right forum, but I'm about to brew my #5 batch and that has to classify me as a beginner, so I should't be too off!
On Saturday, the plan is to brew something with the sweet character of british malt but with a kick of american hops. Method-wise I'm going to use BIAB...
A quick update four weeks later:
Well, something has happened. Either my preference has changed for the favor of ruined beer, or the beer is no longer as ruined as I thought. Anyway, it tastes good. The fusels are not anymore to be found. The body has grown - it's actually rather full than...
Thanks all for the comments. I really appreciate it.
Actually, this is an ongoing project already. I have bought a used combined fridge/freezer where the fridge part will be used as a fermentation chamber. The freezer will probably be unusable and prone to condensation, but I needed something...
I'm not sure that I understand. Do you think my pH was too high or too low? Do you also suggest that I should take more samples, say every five minutes the first 20 minutes, so learn how the pH develops over time, so that I can adjust more properly next times?
This sounds promising. :-) Even...
Hi,
I recently brewed my first BIAB (no sparge) beer, after having brewed three batches of 4 litre partial mash kits before. The result is, well, quite disappointing and I would like to ask for troubleshooting advice.
Here's the recipe and data:
Fuller's ESB clone
Batch size: 20 L
OG: 1,060...
