    Cooler MLT - spinning ball valve

    Maybe the brass fittings screwed together tight, but didn't clamp down on the plastic cooler? That plastic liner is pretty thin

    Cooler MLT - spinning ball valve

    I followed this. Then splooged blue rtv on inside around washers. Leak free. https://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=23008

    Cooler MLT - spinning ball valve

    Need more details. Did you use washers and nuts on threaded ball valve assembly? I tightened assembly on rather thin cooler wall (igloo circular) and just sealed with blue rtc after, haven't had a leak in almost ten years.

    New to CFC usage, hot wort in top or bottom?

    Are you using a pump for wort (guessing yes), or gravity? Personally I don't think it matters but brewers with smaller systems can get away with gravity draining wort through the cfc and not using a pump. I have a pump, but designed my brew cart so the outlet of the cfc is just above fermenter...

    How much fresh ginger to add to a gallon

    I have made a few batches of Ginger beer, ranging from ~8oz fresh grated ginger to one with 40oz. All 5.5 gal batches, added at end of boil. The smaller amounts were very good, especially with lemon and vodka as Moscow mules, but the batch with 40oz was way too strong for us and I think upset my...

    day 2 Boil??

    I'm not the most knowledgeable brewer by any means, but I've done this many times in my search for convenience (and limited equipment/funds). I'd mash after work one night, which really meant a few hours worth of heating/cleaning.. Then, I'd heat back up and boil, and either IC and ferment if I...

    Pre prohibition lager

    http://morebeer.com/brewingtechniques/library/backissues/issue3.5/renner.html Jeff Renner explored this a bit; I think he had even met/talked with some of the old brewmasters from Schlitz or some other BMC brewery. Apparently the beer just kept changing and changing as they realized they...

    New to kegging off flavor

    I'm new to kegging... Just kegged two batches that were thick, and tasted bitter/yeasty when I've tried pouring them. I'll admit I'm new to this, but my conclusion is that I siphoned to the kegs and then by putting them in the keezer, I was cold crashing all the yeast down into the bottom by...

    Heatstick = awesome!

    It sounds like there are more and more people posting that their thinned JB Weld heatsticks are tripping the GFI shortly after being tested. I believe I read a few posts which mentioned that they thinned the JB Weld with acetone/thinner and took apart their ruined heatstick to find that the JB...

    Heatstick = awesome!

    Yeah, just follow the cedar creek guide and it'll work. Sounds like a different chrome nut might make it a little neater, but I just gooped blue RTV silicone around the element threads and it's still holding a seal. I've done 6 batches with my heatstick, doing all-grain on the stove - I have...

    Heatstick = awesome!

    Well said, hammacks.. I burnt out my first one and it got red hot, kinda scary holding it! Just used my (second) heatstick. Simply a beast, and it's only a 1500W element for my wimpy kitchen wiring. Here's a simple test while oxidizing my aluminum pot: My decent electric stove w/big burner vs...

    Heatstick = awesome!

    I just had to replace the element in mine. It lasted about 5 seconds before it started crackling and burned out - since I plugged it in while it was exposed to air (duh). Similar to millstone and Pete, I JB Welded wires but used blue RTV silicone to seal the element in the drain pipe. It was...
