Making Traditional rice Wine. Cheap, Fun, and Different

I decided to conduct a little experiment. Cooked 3 cups (dry measurement) Thai Jasmine in my rice cooker and allowed it to ferment in the jar for 2 weeks. Strained/squeezed into a bottle loosely capped with some cheese cloth. Measured the gravity at 2 week mark is 1.052 and you can clearly...

    Kind of a coffin build

Sanded, stain applied (Minwax "Red Oak 215")! Adding the poly coats now- 3x semi-gloss down, adding 3x gloss. Ooooh, shiny! I'll post up some pictures of the inside tomorrow, including the cooling design for the tap cabinet.

    Kind of a coffin build

No mitred corners here- sorry the picture is crappy. I didn't trust myself to try that. Just normal squared corners. But you're definitely right about the desire to build more... MUST. RESIST. Thanks, man! Your build was a major source of inspiration- I wanted to do tile on mine...

    Fruit Beer Blood Orange Hefeweizen

I brewed this a few weeks ago with Simply Limeade instead of Lemonade (because I freaking love Limeade)- after a few weeks in the keg it has mellowed quite nicely and is really good, but probably a bit more tart than the original recipe (but not in a bad way!). Great recipe!

    Kind of a coffin build

This forum was so incredibly helpful to me when building my keezer, I thought I should share my build in the hope that maybe it might help someone else in the future. To preface- I have absolutely NO woodworking/carpentry experience outside of what I picked up helping the Engineers in the...

Help me decide: Arduino or Raspberry Pi for brewing and smoking applications

Exactly right. For something like that you don't need real-time accuracy (like PWM), just a good, solid PID algorithm, which the RPi would be more than capable of handling. The question then is your logic and programming skillz. Either way, RPi or Arduino, you still have to climb that...

Help me decide: Arduino or Raspberry Pi for brewing and smoking applications

Hi! I highly doubt you'll run into programming memory space issues on the 'Duino with a project like this (unless you want ethernet) Arduino: Pro - Real-time operation, many analog-to-digital pins with reasonable accuracy (8-bit, I think?), extensive documentation (good for someone new to this...

When did you make the switch?

I did about 6 partial boil extract batches, then decided to make the jump. In my (admittedly very limited) experience, if you can extract brew, you can AG brew. For me the biggest hurdle was the initial expense of all the new equipment, but part of that was due to cheaping out when I first...

Guide to set internal chest freezer thermostat to >32F; Eliminate external control

Did this on the ancient 14CuF Gibson chest freezer I found on Craigslist for next to nothing- worked like a charm. About 8.5 clockwise screws puts me at around 36-38F in a bottle of water. Thanks!

Keezer - sanity check before proceeding

https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/guide-set-internal-chest-freezer-thermostat-32f-eliminate-external-control-249612/index13.html Gonna give that a try on the chest I'm picking up tonight. I love this place :mug:

    Logo thoughts?

I think it's fantastic. It's deeply meaningful and beautifully simple at the same time.
