    Hey HBT! Secondary Fermentation Question

I've only got one primary fermenter(6.5 glass carboy). I also have one 5 gallon glass carboy. Besides allowing me to start another batch earlier, by using a secondary it also just "gives me something to do".

BIG Thumbs up for Austin Home Brew

I ordered about $200 worth of equipment earlier this morning. I then realized that I had forgotten a picnic tap for my kegging set-up. I called them and asked if they could toss it in and charge me the $3.99 and I was told that they couldn't guarantee anything since they've went to a more...

    Infection question....

Exactly. Thought I would get better distribution that way?

One step closer to all grain

Craigslist is the best place to find full sized kegs. Bought 3 for 30 bucks last year. I've got a friend that's a welder and he's coming by this week the tops off for me.

    5 Gallon Ordeal

From what I've read, warmer temps may kill yeast. It's always a good idea to get below 80 before pitching.

    5 Gallon Ordeal

I ferment in a 7 gallon bucket and get at least 52 bottles each brew. So if possible, I would recommend upgrading to a 7 gallon bucket. I do have a 5 gallon glass carboy that I use for a secondary, though.

    Infection question....

Fermentation was complete according to my hydrometer. I let it set in a secondary for 4 weeks and then bottled. After my first 6 pack foamed over, I started waiting a couple of weeks and then placing another 6 pack in the refridgerator. And I also varied my refridgerator time as well. Still...

    Infection question....

My last batch, a brown ale, got infected somehow. Basically, I pop the top and everything's OK, but then I start pouring and the foam starts. I'm leaning towards a sanitizing error. Does that sound right?

    How long is too long?

Wish I could attribute my apathy to patience, but I can't.:D Children, money problems, job promotion and life in general.....oh and hunting season too.:D

    How long is too long?

You know? You're right. This will be my first force carbonation. It will be a good test brew, I guess. And who knows....it could be great! Thanks!

    How long is too long?

I've had a honey ale in the secondary for almost 10 months. No sign of infection, just got side-tracked with life and kept putting it off. Brew has been sitting in an extra room in the house. In other words, no extreme temperature changes. Now I'm back on top of everything(for a little...

    Adding gelatine late in secondary...

    Thanks for the info!

    Adding gelatine late in secondary...

Transferred my beer to a secondary late last night and at the last minute remembered my gelatin. Prepared the gelatin like BM suggested but ended up getting side-tracked by a TIVO'd Heroes episode and it boiled on me. Anyway, didn't have the time to wait for the gelatin to bloom so I just...

Who wants my last pack of Nottingham?

    I'll take it??

    Today I'm making...

Being able to watch someone before brewing by yourself is extremely helpful. Kind of gives you an idea of how to organize equipment and visually what to expect. Good luck with you brew!
