    IPA Off Flavor

what kind of sanitizer and cleaner do you use? if you use oxyclean and either use too much per gallon of water and/or dont rinse it well enough (no slippery residue) you will get that taste. also if you dont rinse your sanitizer well enough (assuming it is a san. that you need to rinse)...

the la chouffe is the best one brewed as a belgian and the le freak is the best that is brewed as an american ale at least in my opinion.

    floating hopsacks

i dont use hopsacks, i just dump the hops in. if you have a false bottom or bazooka screen in you boil kettle it wont matter at all. if you dont then try this. take your hopsack and while you are syphoning into the primary, syphon through the hopsack into a funnel into the primary. it will catch...

    Do all autosiphons "suck"?

if you are talking about the stopper at the tip, it is oblong and when you put it back on you need to attach the narrow end to the two clips on the tip of the syphon. the same thing happened to me and it took me a little be to figure it out.

    Ale Yeast Recommendation

Safale SA-05 is cheap and quick, I like the wyeast ale strains but in all honesty I like the 05 is probably the best yeast ive used and did i mention its ultra cheap. pretty much my go to yeast for an ale.

    dry hopping....

Its primarily an aroma thing, so if you want your beer to smell a bit better, and because of that taste a small bit better, than do it. On IPA's i usually do two separate dry hops after about 5 days of violent fermentation, then dry hop for a week each stage. on a five gallon batch I use about 2...

    Brewing software for Mac

beer tools is really good, but what the previous posts have said are correct in the fact that you have to do a bit of configuring and fooling around before everything fully clicks. Also i recommend calibrating all your equipment.

    New Year's in Boston

for real, boston is a **** show on new years. but if you want good beer and feel like getting to a place early, the sunset bar and grill on brighton ave in allston is as good as the east coast gets in tap and bottle selection. the food is good too.

    wit beer

depends on where you put them, ive seen recipies where people boil them but i was told to specifically use dried orange peels and place them in a mason jar with a cup of vodka and the coriander to sit for the entire fermentation and then add to the mix when bottling.
