Peppers for Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout

I can tell you from actual experience that one habanero in a 5 gal batch of beer does not produce something with "too much heat".

Peppers for Mexican Hot Chocolate Stout

I brewed the chili wit beer from Denny and Drew's home brew all starts book. In a 5 gal batch, the recipe called for half of a habanero and three poblanos (edit: I added a whole habanero). All of the chiles get roasted, peeled, and seeded, then pasteurized at 200F for 20 minutes and added like a...

IceMaster Max - Adding Heat - Step by Step

Sorry - I have no idea. I would email kegland.

IceMaster Max - Adding Heat - Step by Step

I am switching the hot side of an extension cord with the icemaster. I am not taking power from the Icemaster's power supply. My recollection is that the CF5 heater is around 80W and that the larger fermenter heaters put out higher wattage. Honestly 80W is probably overkill unless you're...

IceMaster Max - Adding Heat - Step by Step

I've done it for the past year without issue, and I did it based on information in the other thread (about the Max 4). You should contact the manufacturer if you want a definitive answer. If you're concerned about it, you could add a solid state relay to switch the 120V circuit.

IceMaster Max - Adding Heat - Step by Step

The location of the heating relay pins is shown earlier in this thread and in the kegland manual linked from the first post. How you wire it is up to you. I cut apart an extension cord for each controller and wired it such that the relay switches the hot side of the extension cord...

Black IPA thing of the past?

Wookey Jack was great, and apparently, it's back in cans, albeit with very limited sales: https://www.firestonebeer.com/beer/wookey-jack/

    RO system recommendations?

I have a cheap aquatic life system (100 gpd) that has been working well. Adequate for my monthly 6gal batches.

    Oxidation and butterfly valves?

I attach a male ball lock post to 1/4 barb adapter to the ball lock quick disconnect so that gas is pushed out quickly as the valve is opened, and I generally spund and apply CO2 so yes, there is a few psi pushing the beer out. I'm still not convinced that the air all gets purged from the line...

    Oxidation and butterfly valves?

I got a SS Brewtech Unitank a little less than a year ago and keep thinking about the potential for oxygen ingress when opening the butterfly valve. I am thinking specifically about the racking port. For instance, I use a 1.5 TC to 3/16 barb to transfer to kegs. There will be air in the transfer...

    Second batch tastes too bitter.

I haven't bottle conditioned anything in about 10 years, but when I did, I would always dissolve the priming sugar in water and simmer it for a few minutes on the stove. Then add the priming sugar directly to a sanitized bottling bucket and rack the beer in on top. This ensures that the sugar is...

    Second batch tastes too bitter.

The fact that it tasted fine during fermentation really does suggest contamination to me. In my first dozen batches I had weird astringent or bitter tastes develop and a batch of bottle bombs. If the carbonation level in warm-stored bottles continues to increase, that’s a good indication of some...

    THC Beer

With harvest season approaching, this is a timely topic. I once had a beer brewed with 8 oz of flower in a 10 gal batch and it tasted great but had no effect. You need to decarboxylate the THC and you might as well make and add a tincture. This video describes a ‘saison du chron’ that could be...
