Also have one and also a very happy customer. They even custom bent it to fit inside a Blichmann BoilCoil while still being almost completely submerged in a 5g batch (15g pot). I use a pump to whirlpool.
My centennial plant looks like that every year. I thought it was fungus or pests so I bought some neem oil to spray every couple of weeks. The wind theory is interesting. Mine is on a corner of the house that gets a lot of wind due to the wind tunnel effect between our house and the...
The pre-secondary gravity sample tasted really good, but didn't have a lot of coconut. I think the boil probably drives off a lot of the flavor and aroma. Next time I'll probably just put it all in the secondary.
Man this is good! So I used a half lb in the mash, half lb at flameout, and I went with 1.5 lb in secondary, all freshly toasted. Also used half lb cocoa nibs and 1 vanilla bean in secondary, about 1 week. I didn't add any lactose and don't think I will. The coconut was dominating at first...
Just brewed a 5 gallon batch of this guy yesterday, with a few changes. I'm going to use about 1.5 lbs toasted coconut. A third went in the mash, a third at flameout, and the rest will go in the secondary. Beersmith was telling me the above recipe was going to be very light, like a light...
Duderino. I have, but it was one of my first brews a few years ago. I don't remember it being a good beer, but I had bigger issues than water at that point. In my recent research I read a post from Martin saying many people have tried to brew with it and few have been successful. I'm not...
I don't, sorry. I wasn't brewing yet when I was up there. I wonder if LBC or Peoples would know anything about the tap water, although they probably use RO or similar. In my experience, the brewers at both are good people and would probably be willing to help.
Wonderful information! Thank you both Martin and Foosier. This would seem to confirm what I'm seeing, and starting to understand. I'm glad I made another IPA starting with a clean slate and am excited to see how it compares to previous beers. And thank you Martin for your work on Bru'n...
Hey Foosier. Thanks for the reply. It's interesting that you say the results were dramatic. I'm starting to realize that water has a more profound effect than I thought. I've read many times that you can make good to great beers without worrying too much about water. I'm sure that's true...
Old thread, I know. Sorry. I'm hoping Martin will see this.
The above statement was very interesting to me. I also live in Carmel, IN and am curious to know what effect brewing with the municipal tap water would have on, say, an English IPA. The water was run slowly through a carbon block...
My ebiab panel has both a PID and Auber DSPR1 with a switch that allows me to choose which one controls the element. The DSPR1 is great for boil control and much easier to use than the PID in manual mode.
I haven't tried to recirc yet with the PID controlling mash temp so right now I just...
Well, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
I actually hear that a lot, but I also hear how cool it is. The enginerd in me really liked working on that project. Projects like that don't come along often in one's career.
