    First Cider Experiment Brew Begins.

Cinnamon seems a good idea. I think I'll get a few sticks to add to a couple bottles of this when that time comes. Ended up 'tasting' 3 cups (~300mlx3) last night. Only able to operate one eyeball at a time when the 3rd one was done. Kind of a scary combo being so tasty and so strong!

    First Cider Experiment Brew Begins.

Could not resist, had to pour myself a cup. It is Saturday night after all. Taste is about the same as last time though much less yeasty. all things considered I'm really happy with it so far. I think next batch I'm gonna use brown sugar, or caramelize the white sugar, as I think the caramel...

    First Cider Experiment Brew Begins.

Last night I noticed one of the 2 jugs had stopped bubbling. The other I had given an extra step feed to see what the difference would be and it is still bubbling away happily. This morning there was still no bubbling and the water in the blowoff tube bottle had moved up into the tube so it...

    can I use a this?

I used to drink that exact brand of juice all the time back home in California, It's delicious juice, I bet it would make a great cider. Had a bottle of it try to start fermenting on it's own once while car camping at a music festival. Opened a bottle and then left it open overnight on the...

    First Cider Batch Started

No advice really, except don't fiddle with it too much. I just tasted my first ever cider a few days ago and now I can't wait for it to be ready. As yeasty and weird as it was, I could tell how good it is going to be. Strong too! A half a coffee mug worth and I was feeling quite relaxed.

    First Cider Experiment Brew Begins.

Getting yeast is a bit of a PITA here so my options are pretty limited, one of the reasons I wanted to do an experiment with the local bread yeast is that it's something I can just go get locally, not have to have muled in from another continent. I have some high temp tolerant Champagne yeast...

5 days in and the bubbling has almost stopped. Interesting color changes. Debating giving one or both halves a shot of sugar to see what happens.

Thanks. I should have room for a bigger batch by the time I get some real wine yeast and some other gear. Honestly though I'm thinking I can get by with almost all repurposed gear. I've even seen info online about making your own hydrometer and calibrating it with pure water and other carefully...

    First Cider Experiment Brew Begins.

So I could not wait for my fancy yeast and other stuff to get muled in from North America, I wanted to get something brewing ASAP, even if it turned out to be an unsuccessful learning experience. Luckily things seem to be moving along at a so far so good pace. Even though everything I have used...

    Barcode generation: Scannable

Text files seem to be currently limited to 1500 characters but other than that it seems to work great! Here is one I just made with a quote I dig. I dont have a smart phone but I found this program that lets my iMac read QR codes from images from the built in camera or from image files...

    Slanting yeast

I went shopping for pressure cookers today and the ones made here have just one pressure setting, 80 kPa, which seems to translate to 11.6 psi. Would this work ok? Maybe if give the items i'm sterilizing a few more minutes of steam time?

    Not-So-Obnoxious Baseball Thread

Being overseas, I don't keep a close eye on sports back home but I always check in at the beginning of October to check to see where my team landed, happy to see that the great green and gold has taken another division championship! Go A's. Now I just have to find a sports bar that will be open...

Would you want an 800L fermenter?

Probably do better buying cheap conical fermenters from China and having them shipped over to the states, tons of them on alibaba. Or if I was in the US I'd maybe look at sources of stainless water tanks nearby. But, if anyone is serious about wanting one shoot me a PM and I can dig into...
