    calibrating anvil scale

Yeah, I found this thread because I just overflowed a keg because my Anvil scale read 35lbs when it was completely full. Took it to a second scale in another part of the house and it turned out to be 51lbs. Doh!

    Glycol chiller and counterflow chiller?

Cool. I ended up spending yesterday building out a way to recirculate water from my cooler through my CFC. So I'm planning on buying a couple bags of ice before the next brew and give that a shot too. It just kills me how much water I send down my driveway every time I brew in the summer so...

    Glycol chiller and counterflow chiller?

@Rob2010SS Have you tried using your Icemaster to cool wort yet? I just picked one up and was planning to do the same thing. I wrote morebeer to ask if it was possible and they said I could go directly to a steel conical with the boiling wort and cool it with the Icemaster but everything I've...

    Brew Kettle Hardware

I'm hoping to cut the legs down on the false bottom and have the diptube go through the false bottom but I haven't done it yet. I want to make sure I have all the parts together before cutting holes in things :) But yeah, that also looks like a solid solution.

    Brew Kettle Hardware

Not a bad idea either! I'm always at the point of nearly just buying a new kettle because this one is so weird but it's the top kettle to an old morebeer tippy dump system, so if I get rid of it... no more tippy, which is kind of nice.

    Brew Kettle Hardware

Gotcha. I saw weldless and thought it meant that I don't need to weld anything. Like I said, I'm not great at hardware. It looks the same to me though... you pull the diptube through and then screw the interior threaded section into the kettle and then you have an external threaded piece for...

    Brew Kettle Hardware

And that's why this forum rules. Thanks. I've dug through brewhardware.com and I think I even emailed them a while back describing what I was looking for. I don't think they had a solution. That is totally what I need... or maybe https://www.brewhardware.com/product_p/diptubewl58.htm Either...

    Brew Kettle Hardware

First off, I have a terrible history with getting hardware right. For every connection I have in my brew setup, it's probably taken 3 trips to the hardware store and countless random purchases of random fittings that don't work. Attached is a photo of my mash tun's outlet. What usually...

    False Bottom Advice

Thanks Bobby for the thorough answer. I never really thought about the efficiency hit that I'm probably taking due to the small amount of sparge water that I'm able to use. There have been times I've tried to make an incredibly small amount of water last 45 minutes because I hear sparging for...

    Increasing Efficiency

Thanks for the reply Doug. Your explanation does make sense. I can imagine that, if you're mixing the grain bed during sparge, you're not only mixing the grains, you're also mixing the sugar concentration in the water, and you really want that sinking towards the output valve... and...

    Increasing Efficiency

This sticky was super useful to read through. Thanks for pinning it. There is one part that confuses me, at least when applied to my home setup. Why does the thickness of the grain bed matter if stirring is okay during the mash out? Until recently, I had always thought the rule was "don't...

    False Bottom Advice

It's one of those morebeer tippy-dump setups, so I can tip it over during the drain but there's still at least a gallon left over. Do you think a simple dip tube is all I need? My gut says that the excess water needed to fill that deadspace is diluting the mash and sparge water but I really...

    False Bottom Advice

That is maybe a better idea. Would you just drill a hole through the FB for the dip tube? I'm not sure I have the tools to cut the legs these false bottoms though. https://www.morebeer.com/products/false-bottom-8-gal-heavy-duty-kettle.html
